AFM to housing fitment

Hi guys,

I was wondering how the AFM unit in my 1982 is supposed to fit inside the large 0-ring in the U housing. Looks like it should snug inside the throat with the 0-ring sealing it.

I can't get it to fit, sits on top of the o-ring, and even the filter housing when secured, the AFM isn't inside the o-ring.

Any tricks to getting this right?

Thanks

I'm assuming you got the new o-ring from one of the vendors. how does the o-ring feel inside the notch its supposed to be in? It should be pretty hard to get out once seated properly unless you have a tiny flathead to pry it out. otherwise there might be some remnants of an older seal cramping it.

I'm not aware of any size differences in the afm to u-joint for l-jet cars.

Yup, it's a new o-ring and it fits well in the groove. Seems the "nipple" part of the AFM won't snug into the o-ring. Even with the lower air box removed, I can't get it to seal. Seems to want to only sit on the o-ring.

I was surprised at how tight a fit new AFM O-rings are, I gave mine a light coat of motor oil and then installed the AFM without the airbox attached to get it to seat properly. Took a lot of pressure and twisting back and forth.

i forgot about that. i did use sillicone lube spray on mine as well before inserting it, it is quite the tight fit. first time you really need to push it in.
