Component Locator

Does anyone have a component locator for an 87 s4? A detailed one would be nice. Thanks.

Also, it's starting to snow up here, so i gotta put my car away for a while unfortunately.

if you have the WSM there is a locator in the electrical section it will have the car on a blocked graph and labelled with a number and letter
Better yet what are you looking for, what are your issues?

well i have plenty of issues with alot of things, but i just wanna get to know where everything is and what its particular task it. One thing i wanna know is whether or not my car is equipped with the stereo amps. I heard some have them and some don't, it would help to know if i had them and where they are so i can get all my speaker wiring figured out.

However a problem i am having is that my stereo power wire isn't working. By that i mean, I hook my power in the head unit to that and it will restart the kenwood system when i try to turn the volume up to a certain point. But when i bypass that power wire and use a large jumper wire going straight to the battery, it will work without restarting the stereo. so I'm not sure if that has to do with those amps, or if the wire is corroded, and if it is idk where to actually find the wire harness it goes to. all that fun stuff.

wiring diagrams only tell you so much, i've been looking at them, trust me

Check your option codes under the carpet below the hatch. These can be decoded to see if you have the upgraded sound system. I don't remember the code number off the top of my head for the upgraded sound system but there are a number of sites that have the decoder. The amp is beside the passenger seat below the seat switches. There is a cover over it. Get the WorkShop Manuals and a PET. I've got them on my computer and in hardcopy. I still have the original Reno head unit in mine so not sure about where the wiring runs. My guess would be that your head unit might be over-driving the amp or pulling too much current for the factory wire guage if it is a high power unit. You should run "line-level" to an amp for quality sound and not "speaker outs" which is basically from one amp to another which causes over-driving and distortion.

the amp for your car is under the right hand carpeted rocker cover next to the passenger seat.

The stereo wires are usually wrapped together their should be one thats always 12V,
one thats switched 12v,
and the brown ground,
these come down the console.

There will also be wires under the RH cover similar to the stereo,
there will also be a 12v power transformer this is used to soften the electrical power sent to the respective units to eliminate noise
