1982 928 5speed

I'm looking for options and a little help please, my car needs clutch work, as in, won't go into gear when it's running. Tried adjusting it a few times but it's not working.

Here's what I've tried so far..........

Removed the clutch, checked for anything out of spec, disc's were still ok, PP as well.

Checked the master and slave cylinder, re bleed the system.

Adjusted the clutch (IP) a few times.

Now it sounds like the TOB snap ring came loose, has no pedal.

At this time, I have no room in the garage for it and needed to do something as in, sell it or find a new place to keep it.

Options

1) sell it

2) find a place till I can work on again

3) part the car out

If I wanted to part it out, is there a good way to go about it?

Thanks for your time

Looks like a decent 928. Keep it until you can work on it again. I doubt there is "any" easy way to part any car out.

Thanks, just trying to keep it and my karmann ghia happy, when I bought the 928 it was a non runner, got it going and had to stop work, then back on it.

I live just south of Atlanta in Covington.

No, I did not replace the nylon/plastic bushing, it looked good but I should have replaced it anyway.

I'm trying to find a new home for her or at best a place to keep it until a later time. Storage is around $100 a month so I need to make up my mind. I really don't like the outside with a cover over it look, if I need to then so be it

You look like you have some side yard space in that area. Put a nice cover over it to keep the neighbors happy. Start it up every month to keep the injection system in check. $100 per month storage is a lot to swallow.

More pictures and a price might help you sell it if that is the route you choose.

If your clutch master cylinder was a replacement, the inner pushrod is probably too long for an early car. It needs to be disassembled(can be done easily from inside the car) and the rod and spring shortened. It is a very common problem that occurs when putting in a new MC. There is a good description of it in the Rennlist archives. The guts of the MC were slightly changed with the single disc cars and that is the MC sold for all 928s now.

Without it being a driver, and a bit sorted out beyond the basics of being about to drive I don't think there is much chance of anything close to that price. Everybody in many states are looking at putting the 928 type cars into storage of some kind for the winter, so prices are the lowest.

GLWS is you choose that route. I've been there at that decision point but did not sell and kept plugging away. Most have been there too I would think.

Cover it, start it like Leo says every month. Take a deep breath and see how you feel later.

Driving my 928 is as much fun as riding my Yamaha FJR but in a different way. I am glad I kept mine. You may also.

My 81 runs very well, has very good interior, good paint, new tires, 5 speed, no air, no heat but everything else is in working order and out here is worth 3k which is what I paid for it. I have 1k more in parts invested and many, many hours, I mean many hours of time.

Keep it if you are able. I am reaping the benefits of my labor many times over.

I think there is a huge amount of 928 folks in Georgia. Maybe someone could help you get yours shifting or recommend a good 928 shop. Could be an easy and not too expensive fix.

Sounds like you are competent in cars though. Glad you are keeping it. Could be the inner pushrod as DougM suggested.

One thing I know for sure is that these cars like to be driven, don't let too much time go by without getting her back on the road.

Good luck!
