Wheel Locks?

I noticed my car gets a little vibrate-y when I get it up in the neighborhood of 100 mph and I wonder if it is because of the heavy wheel locks I have. I took off a regular lug nut and the wheel lock and weighed them. Regular lug nut 17.7 grams, wheel lock 89.8 grams! That's more than all the other 4 lug nuts put together!

So I'm wondering if any of you have wheel locks on your car, have noticed vibrations at higher speeds, got rid of them because of this, etc.

Thanks,
Alan

Maybe an alignment and re-balancing of the wheels might do. Not sure about the weight of the lug nut locks.

an extra 70 grams (over 2 ounces)on one nut will definately throw out wheel balance, balancing is done off car with no nuts.
swap a nut from a rear wheel so you have 5 the same on the front, and see if the shake goes.

That was my thought. I've heard it said (don't recall where) to put the wheel lock opposite of the valve stem to help balance it out, but the wheel is balanced with the valve stem on and the lugs/wheel lock off.

It's not a shake in the steering, just a general unlocalized vibration, like I'm going over a rough surface, at the higher speeds.

In any case, I'm gonna see if I can find some replacement lug nuts. I looked on 928Intl but all I see they have are black ones and mine are silver('ish). Hate to have to replace the whole lot of them (at $10 a pop) and I don't think the black would look that good on my wheels.

Regardless - take the wheel locks off and throw them away - nobody is going to steal your wheels - but the wheel locks may well bite you!

If not - when you are 2 hours into drill/dremelling off wheel locks you will regret it bigtime, and if you drill a big chunk out of the wheel you will regret it even more...

You should see how deep the lugnuts are burried on Cup 1 wheels at the back - no fun!
