84 Euro wont stay running

Car starts, and runs / idles for about 5 to 8 seconds. Then it stalls. It will stall immediately if the gas pedal is depressed.

I have recently replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel line from tank to pump.
I dont think it is running on the cold start injector because it runs for longer than it would be on a cold start.

Any suggestions?

Garage
Give us more background. Why did you change filter, pump, etc. Was it running previously, if not, when did it last run? What other work have done on it?

All 84 Euro's are LH as far as I know, 83 last year of CI$.

Maybe the MAF is bad?

As it is the crossover year from k Jet to L-Jet, I just wanted to be sure it really is an LH car.

hey guys,

thanks for responding. The car is a legit Euro twin distributor. It was a barn find. It sat for three years. It was running when it was put away. it is in fairly good condition other than some rat damage to wires and vacuum lines (minor).

I replaced the fuel pump after dropping the tank and finding sludge. SO I did the pump and the filter as well as the line between them. I have noticed that one of the filaments in the MAF is broken. I am thinking this may be part of it.
here is a link to a video of the car being started. I think that could help.

thanks,

D.

Dangler is correct. Your car has a hot wire MAF and it isn't unreasonable to think that it could be the MAF. The poster above me can assist with this.

Also, clean every single ground connection on your car.

hopefully the admin will approve them so you guys can get more info. as stated in the posts you can not see, the maf is broken. One of the filament wires appears to be disconnected. I am not 100% sure because it is hard to see through the stupid screen that is on one end of the MAF body.

If you do have LH injection, the unplug the MAF and start the engine. It then works in "limp home mode". It should start and idle pertty well, it won't be driveable but it will confirm the problem probably is the MAF.

Louie Ott has a flow jig and can test your MAF for a reasonable fee, he has my rebuilt MAFs in stock.

OK, I saw the video.... the MAF hot wire has three sides. However if it was broken, that would be the same as disconnecting it for "limp home mode". So it doesn't seem that is the problem.

Try disconnecting it anyway, because that is the definitive test. Let us know what you find.

Has the car been Federalised in any way ?

Like many forums you can't post images until you have 5 posts. Moderator never seeing anything as far as I know to approve or not, you just need to make 5 posts and bingo it works.

I wasn't aware of 84 being a crossover year, all I have seen were LH.

Is this maybe a UK/Euro model year vs US Vin issue?
