Transaxle lines.
 

Hey guys, I'm going to be swapping my transaxle out with a rebuilt one pretty soon. I've started tearing stuff apart and will flush the lines and such soon enough. The main problem im having is that my transaxle feed and return lines are leaking like crazy. they have been for a while. It even appears that some portion of the torque converter may be leaking.

My question is how would i go about fixing all the leaking lines. Also, does anyone know if they disconnect between the soft and hard lines?

In one of the pictures you will see a hose zip tied over one of the tranmission lines. I took it to a mechanic a while back to have a leak fixed and this was his solution i guess.

The hose ziptied over - isn't that just for keeping the actual trans hose line from rubbing on the sharp metal edge seen in the pic?

I don't know if its still the practice, but last time I had an AT rebuild I needed to have the torque converter done as well, something about totally flushing out the system etc.

Yes but thats also where it was leaking from.

and yes, i know i've gotta flush the whole system, but i also need to stop all the leaks, i just don't know how or what method is used.

remove the lines from the transmission to over the cats,
they unscrew ,
then take the lines to a hose shop and have them recrimp on new hydro hose,
add some heat resistant covering over the lines where they connect at the cats to keep the flex portions from getting damaged from heat.

The leaking TC will require the front radial seal and the front pump O ring to be replaced ,
then it should be fine ,
you dont have to rebuild the TC,
but you may have to install new TC front bearings

Thanks Mrmerlin. I'll post some more pics tonight of a few things i found. I already have a rebuilt transaxle ready to go in because the current one has burnt up clutch packs, i know this for a fact when i drained the fluid before and it was black...

So the rebuilt one should have the new seals at the torque converter, all i need to worry about is getting the lines cleaned out (including the cooler itself) and doing the actual swap. I may have found someone locally that will do it, i'll have to go into them and see though. like i said, i'll post a pic later and ask another question.

I rebuild 911 fuel & oil lines on a regular basis. Only made up a few fuel hoses for a 928, but perhaps I can help with this if you give me some size details.
