Crashtest

Sooooooo, eh. Anyone want to buy a cheap 5-speed? Crashed it today at the Nürburgring right about the 12 km-mark. Anyway, happy that the 928 is such a strong car. Speed was about 65 mph on impact, and my buddy and I simply got out and walked away. Doors opening just as before. Thanks for the time on this forum guys, it's been great! Probably gonna lay low for a while, but I will buy another one at some point. Oh, btw: Crashing on the ring is EXPENSIVE. 3500€... Ouch. Could have bought a 928 with that kind of cash.

So sorry to hear of your misfortune Riber. I will miss your posts as I've always read them as they appeared. Thanks for all your help getting mine running.

That's a shame Riber and the added insult of the huge fine/tow sucks.

Is there more you can tell us about your accident when you're ready?

Mrmerlin 05-25-2013 01:14 PM

Oh Riber so sorry to hear of your misfortune,
Glad your not hurt and that you walked away .
Maybe it can be fixed ,
I hope that good things show up on your path

Fixer 05-25-2013 07:52 PM

I was at a party and was thinking about your crash..what a story Riber.
I have seen many pictures of crashed cars on the Ring.
Lay low, understood. BTW, hope you can wiggle out of the 3500.
and also hope to hear from you again soon.

Danglerb 05-26-2013 05:08 PM

Sorry to hear it happened, glad to hear the car did its job and you walked away. 65 mph at impact is a whack and a half, plenty of cars might have had nasty results.

riber.bentsen 05-27-2013 02:04 AM

Obligatory pics. Happened at the left curve Kesselchen, which has claimed many cars and lives before, I'm told.

I like what Worf said in the Rennlist thread on your crash.

Basically: respect for the car going down while doing what it does --- not from fuel line fire or TBF.

Very sorry about the misfortune.

Act quickly, get back onto the horse, need a replacement 928 ASAP.

You have too much knowledge of how these babies work to walk away!

Need you to stay.

riber.bentsen 05-27-2013 03:12 AM

Thanks, Landseer. But I'm done with 928's for now. Best car I've ever driven, will return at some point.

Could you post a link to the Rennlist thread?

wow Riber, hard hit. great car.

AirtekHVAC 05-27-2013 05:52 AM

Sorry Riber...please don't stay gone too long.....

SanDiego928 05-27-2013 02:25 PM

Glad you are okay. I am dumbstruck for any other words at the moment.

Danglerb 05-27-2013 09:40 PM

I said in the RL post, beautiful car, much of which could be saved and swapped into another chassis with a clean straight body. Drop the whole drive train and suspension for an easy swap.

riber.bentsen 05-27-2013 10:30 PM

The problem is that we have some crazy taxes in Denmark on cars, and those taxes (about 17.000$) are bound in this chassis (VIN). So there is quite the incitament to get it fixed.

Danglerb 05-28-2013 01:45 AM

I've heard of people welding on a new front end, basically from the firewall forward. Not sure that would be something I would want to own.

Double ouch on the taxes.

riber.bentsen 05-28-2013 02:41 AM

Just from looking at it on-site, it appears only the crumple-zones are bent. Steering still works, wheels seem straight, engine runs and so on. And replacing crumple zones are in the WSM. Agree with you on not owning some hacked-up, put together 928, but I need to save my ass economically here...

davetr 05-28-2013 05:14 AM

good luck w what ever you decide, sorry about th crash, glad you are ok

anakilat 05-28-2013 05:57 PM

It's great to see you made it out healthy. Let us know what you do with the car. Too many good pieces left to junk it.
