Put my hands all over her! Pics galore.
Picked up my car and brought it to the mechanic for TB and WP; it's sitting waiting for a new radiator being currently build by by 928 motorsports.
The car has been parked in the open with a car cover on it for the last week- its hot and I began to get worried that the interior that is in really good condition was getting pounded by the heat so I went over to douse the interior with Leatherique. I'd used leatherique on a '91 volvo 740 with good results. I am really attracted to the 928's interior and really want this one to be the best that it can. It is complete and always garaged and it really shows. Beyond just slathering on a whole bottle of Leatherique on the interior I finally got some time just to poke around the car. So took a bunch of pics that I'll share here. I also have some questions. Below is a shot of the wing. It looks to have a hinged joint at the front; I've heard of these being hinged. When I pushed from the bottom I couldn't get it to budge at all. The bolts seemed to be tight but there was some play, about 1mm or so. I hope it doesn't produce chatter at speed. is this normal? Also what does the hinging allow for? ![]() ![]() Hanging with it's lot mate, an '86 ![]() Has a canvas cargo cover, I love it way it attaches to the hatch. I love the feel of the buttons in this thing and the way the rear seats fold down, very positive "clunks", reminds me of a postal jeep I had-a little. ![]() The interior all slathered down with Leatherique. Today I'll go back and wipe it down with the cleaner solution and see what dirt/salt etc. has been "floated" as the instructions say, to the top. It seems to me that the seats may have been dyed as perhaps has the door cards-not poorly it all looks even; mind you its a black interior. I noticed some small tears in the leather at the bolster and seam separation at the driver's left shoulder (I also noticed the same seam separation on another 928 in the shop). This can probably be repaired. ![]() When I first started applying the leather treatment I wasnt' sure it the interior was fully leather or what; the dash is cracked but didn't seem like leather; its got a cover on it too. The seats are leather but the door cards/rear quarter panels(?). Seems like man made leather. I saw this scratch in the rear quarter panel and the look of the way the "leather" stretched over corners and it seemed more like leather than vynil...enlighten me here; what is this material? At any rate it got leather treatment. ![]() I noticed these crank ports at the front of each seat. What are they for? ![]() ![]() Cracked receiver surround-should this be replaced? ![]() The "I've been garaged and never really been driven at night for the last 10 years" type of dust on the backside of the lights. ![]() |

More pics
Dig these pop rivets I almost like them, one of the many "touches" that someone did. This car was owned by a Japanese lady who got it in a divorce settlement according to PO, originally from CA, the car ended up with her in San Antonio where, it seems, she had some "work" done by a ham-fisted but honest mechanic who did dumb **** like this. Let's not speculate what else might have occurred.
![]() Here is another special touch, done by our man in San Antonio; I can only guess this was some sort of intake refresh job...looks like the intake got a fresh coat of paint and black silicone...um...well...What should I do with this? Re-install the cap? Is there an important one way valve here? At any rate it is sealed up but good. ![]() And finally here is our boy's other attempt at cosmetic freshening of the tail...a blotchy coating of paint. I can pass the pop rivets off as charming but this just looks so poor. Need advice here. How should I treat this? Wet sand? Please help me here. ![]() All in all can't wait to get her back on the road; will replace fuel lines next-AT HOME in my garage. ![]() |

pics I screwed up on
Here's the hinged wing that doesn't pivot:
![]() The intake "job" I mentioned: ![]() Can someone explain what this is all about? The label "silicone removal"? The fill port? ![]() The wheel, soaking in the Leatherique, stitching is in great shape, no splits-all tight. I'll go clean the whole thing down later and post pics. ![]() How many feet of fuel line should I buy today? ![]() |

On top of the intake, if I recall correctly, is just the circlip that holds the shaft for the butterfly valve. Not sure why it needed silicone...
The label "silicone removal filler port" thing is the intensive windshield washing system. It is only to be filled with Porsche's special chemical and it washes grime off the window that the normal washing system will not. It is also supposedly on a timer so you can only operate it so often. I read about it in my manual, if you want some more info, I will snap some photos of the pages in the manual for you.

Intensive washer
Thanks DLBass,
I've got the manual, I'll look for that portion. I really appreciate the thought. Josh |

Hatch receiver liner is sold by a few of the usual suspects plus Nicole, which is where I bought my last two.

Mine has the flip wing also. It takes a very firm lift to get it to move. Best I can tell, it gives you better access to the lower portion of the window and windshield wiper.
Regarding the siliconed area on your intake. I can't help wondering if your flappy valve would even operate properly. Take a look at Dwayne's Garagage intake refresh. He explains how to check operation. Make sure you look at the appendix A at the very end of the write up.

Apparently I bought the last bottle of the Porsche intensive wash in the country a few years back. Audi do something similar at a much more reasonable price if it is not findable. The crank ports under the seat are for adjusting the electric seats back and forth when the plastic drive gears break... There should be a hex-crank in the tool kit that fits that and the sunroof?

You will need to get a new fuel line for sure. The split rubber is a BBQ waiting to happen. Roger can set you straight.
