What connects to the Mystery Port on Air Filter Housing?
![]() The Mystery Port has a GREEN Indicator on it. (sorry if this is a duplicate to other attempts at posting a photo) |

I do not have that connection.
No clue. My '82 does not have this port. Attached is a picture from the Porsche PET of my airbox. Notice the lack of anything on the sides.
Are you in the US? Could your car be CIS? Or someone replaced the airbox from an earlier car or something. ![]() |

take a closer look is the hole plugged?
it might be and the standoff was for another market. If the hole is open plug it, nothing on your car will connect to this

Hey Mike
I'm in Englewood, OH [near Dayton]. I got the car in 1988 but rarely drive it, The Owner's Manual says it has Engine M 28.25/16. Your Drawing shows 2 grommets 8 & 9 or hose ports. Mine has only one and it's on the passenger side, same as the mystery port. What is PET & CIS? [I know I'll feel very stupid when I find out] Thanks |

Hi Mrmerlin
The Mystery Port is not plugged & it just goes directly into the housing. I'll plug it as soon as the engine cools down & see what happens. Thanks |

all that plugging will do,
is keep out dirt from flowing into your engine, since this port is on the clean side of the filter/. But it does need to be plugged

Part of the air injection. Hose goes from airbox to diverter valve.

Hi Turborat
The Mystery Port shown in the picture I posted is on the passenger side of the Upper Hosuing. I don't see it on your drawing. Also the Parts Legend stops at 17. I assume 19 is the Diverter Valve. |

sorry the picture shows the port is on the lower side of the air cleaner housing.
Nothing plugs into this , SO plug the hole to keep out dirt. The port on the upper housing is for the airpump diverter valve, thats attached to the right cam tower.

Jj82, on my drawing those are not ports, they are mounts for the airbox.
The PET is the Porsche parts list. It's available from the Porsche web site and is invaluable in identifying parts. That port you show should be plugged. The PET even shows are a part number for the plug. You either have a CIS car or the airbox from one. Here's what I am talking about, page 39. http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/en/E_928_82_KATALOG.pdf Last edited by mikebloomfield; 08-09-2013 at 07:21 PM.. |

Turbocat... My bad! It did scroll.
Mikebloomfield ... I plugged the hole but haven't driven the car yet. Mrmerlin... I taped the port closed. PET looks useful. Thanks Guys It looks like this site only allows 20 post per topic b4 cutting off replies. Last edited by jj1982; 08-10-2013 at 12:47 AM.. Reason: added more |

Mine has a hose on it, that goes through the passenger fender wall, and connects to the menagerie of emission hoses at the canister mounted under the top of the fender well.

![]() Note '85-up have an additional steel line which dumps behind the back bumper. '85-'86 airboxes have the port, but it is not drilled through. I'm guessing that fuel vapors in the airbox would not be a good thing when the MAF burns off? Early vapor recovery system: ![]()
