Engine Change

Well, it has been several months. My Son (13) and I have been gradually pulling the engine out of my 87 S4 auto. It has been a slow process. Teaching him all the way thru. Was at the point to start hoisting it out today, and I decided to back off and start fresh the next chance we get. I was only able to get the tranny to slide back a little bit. The shaft is still in the center of the flywheel by about 1/4". I think we can maneuver enough to get it by. The only thing i cant find is the infamous wire bundle clamp on the bottom cross-member. will i see it as i start to lift?.

Most of my wiring connections are toast. So i will be looking for info on sourcing or better alternatives to the originals.

Found lots of wires that were snacked on by mice. I cant believe it ran as good s it did!!!!

Once the engine is out, i pull the car out of the garafge and bring his 968 in. It was a
$2K junk yard find that had T/B fail. Head work and valves were done. Hopefully correctly. I put new chain and tension pads. Going to do the TB/WP and cam timing and see what happens.

Price of a head gasket, I would verify the headwork was done correctly unless its a driver already, if not, why not?

Most of the connectors are available, the whole harness too in some cases.

What would be the best route to go to have the head work checked for acuracy?

Another machine shop that did not do the work originally.

That infamous wire bundle clamp is on the driver side of the crossmember kinda tucked up with the steering knuckle above the steering rack. 10mm bolt that has to be counterheld.
