Window up/down switch
My driver side window doesn't work. Fortunately, it's stuck in the up position. I want to jumper around the switch, as was suggested for the dash light problem, and need to know how to get the switch out of the console.

The switches can be pried out of the console. Use a thin blade screw driver and gently loosen one end. The wires are fairly tight on them. Look "search" other posts on this here. You can still buy replacements but someone makes a complete solid state control for all the switches.

Remove center console carpet panel on the side you want to work on. Trace window wire bundle to the connector and detach. Mark on connector if needed to re-attach correctly. You can now have some more room to work with. Gently pry up switch. See attached link for remainder of repair. Works like a charm. When you become familiar with the mechanics of the hardware in the switch, you can adjust as needed about every 12 months if needed. My original switches work very well, and when they start to require more pressure, it's about a 15 min fix and we're good for another year.

Hey MainePorsche
I was able to take the switch apart and gently "dress" the contacts. I also got it back together and seated properly. It seems to operate well mechanically, however, the window motor still won't work. Is there a way to get to the motor leads w/o taking the door apart? How tuff is it to get to the door panels off? I can't even see a starting point for the project/ordeal. I just looked at your link and it is super! I pried the top of the switch off with the switch still in the console and then finessed the switch out until the wires were taut. I took off the armature [movable contact] and cleaned all the contact surfaces [some were dirty but not pitted]. I was disappointed for lack of better results. |

Hey MP
The travails continue ... I was checking voltage on the switch. It had 12 VDC on the top far left & bottom far right contacts. Then I must have caused a short b/c I heard a pop & now neither contact has voltage. I don't see a fuse for the switch, any ideas on what's wrong now? The good thing is that all adjacent 3 switches still work. Also, do you have a schematic [I should have gotten it b4 I started tinkering] that shows the contact positions for UP - DOWN. Thanks again |
You really need a manual and schematic for your car. I down loaded one sometime ago, but forgot where. Maybe someone here can guide you to one.
