Engine oil discoloration

I have about 500 miles on a completely rebuilt (and meticulously cleaned) engine. I ran Joe Gibbs 15w50 break-in oil for about 100 miles and changed that out for Castrol Edge 10w30 synthetic.

Oil pressure is good and the engine runs at good temperature - it does overheat when in traffic due, I think, to a lazy viscous fan clutch.

The question I have is about the color of my engine oil. It is as clean as the day I put it in. It does not appear to be using oil either.

Is this a good thing or is it a sign that, maybe, the oil control rings are too tight? It has been a long time since I drove a car with a brand new engine so not sure what to expect. On my other vehicles, the oil goes dark withi a few miles.

It means that you had a nice clean engine to start with and the soot/dirt and other particulate matter from your engine hasn't fouled your oil yet.

Are you sure that you want to run 10w30 in your 928? Unless, of course, your driving takes you into the Arctic or something like that.

It's not a diesel with lots of soot.
It's a good sign imho

I looked in the owner's manual and 10w30 seemed appropriate. The climate up here is pretty mild and it won't be driven in the winter. What weight would you recommend?

I would recommend that you drain that thin oil out ASAP , a 928 engine will live longer with thicker oil
I like Valvoline racing 20W50 put this oil in and leave it alone ,
run this oil for 3000 miles.

IMHO you should have left the breakin oil in for 3000 miles and just swapped in a new oil filter after 100 miles.
adding syn oil after not really breaking in the engine means the rings may never seat properly or take an extended time to break in,
I wouldnt put syn oil in till after 10K miles
