Rear Boge Replacement
Hey all, was changing original Boge sport shocks and replacing with stock Boge shocks. It doesn't look like I will ever track the car, so from cost analysis I went with stock.
![]() My question would be does anyone have a trick to get the threaded adjustment sleeve off the used shock? ![]() Also, the conical rubber support was distorted and relatively trashed. The picture doesn't really do it justice. This is 928 333 043 00 in my PET diagram. Roger seemed surprised and mentioned he had not heard of one failing before. Has anyone else come across this? ![]()

I drilled a hole in one end and drained the oil.
Then cut the old shock in half. That seemed to be the best way for me. Did you get new shock bumpers? Mine were toast. |

$50 each and they might need to be visually awful before some get replaced. Rear shocks tend to last much longer than fronts, so might be a neglected part. One of those parts you might replace if you had ordered it with the shocks, but now that it looks bad and you are ready to put the car back together you skip type things.

My trick with the threaded sleeves was to call 928 Int'l and have the send them to me. Wasn't worth the time for me to try to remove them. They told me at 928 Int'l that they shock them in solvent for 24 hrs and then use a press to remove them. Good luck. Shocks and exhaust systems are about the two worse jobs on any car.

I bought a pair of "new"bump stops off ebay that look suspiciously like the ones in your picture
I could not even guess how old the stock was, but after a month in garage, NO DRIVING!! just jacking car up and down, I decided to put in new springs, a quarter of the "new"bumps had turned to dust- looked like a cleaner version of your old ones. test them somehow first, put them in a vise maybe- put them under pressure, see how they stand up. Replaced them with some (red) energy suspension ones.

The Dadddio method proves successful! Minus whatever toxic goo I got all over the place, it wasn't that bad.
![]() ![]() That's a big cup of PB Blaster with some holiday cheer. Plexus, I agree, the new stubber seems flimsy for the job it is supposed to do. I'm going to look at other options, thanks for the heads up.

Glad it worked out for ya Dave.
I mangled one on my first shock replacement. The next three were pretty easy. Still got one that's pretty roughed up that needs to be replaced. Let me know if I can help. |

Geezus, go to the local hardware store and buy a 2 ton press for $80.00. Saves you time and money.

This was the culprit on the rear driver's side.
Notice how happy it is to stay compressed with no force at all on it. I guess it's performance life was roughly 27 years. ![]() ![]()

post on rennlist,
I know, I know. Dumb question re: Ride height - Rennlist Discussion Forums It does explain(pic) where the rear points to measure height are, then, the how to do it gets silly...... It goes into a description of bits of welding rod to meaure height, reminds me of when NASA spent millions to develop a pen that could write in zero gravity, the Russians just used pencils, ![]() Get a simple tape meaure that has the length of case on it, lie on the garage floor , easy. Who would have figured ![]() (the one I use has measurements marked that include the case, even easier for those that can't do the 1+1=2 maths ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks again Plexus!
I'm definitely more of a soviet block thinker. This was very helpful. I can't remember who said stock Boge felt like a Caddy, but I think it might be true -- definitely a softer feel. It will take some getting used to.

Don't change the shocks, install heavier sway bars, keeps the caddie comfort, (Hard track day ride can get real tedious in a daily driver)reduces the roll on corners.
