Could you post a pic of your y pipe configuration?

Mrmerlin 01-21-2014 10:31 AM

nice restoration project. Your intake looks great

FWIW I would swap out that fly catcher air filter for a factory part,
The factory filter works better and gives 25 extra HP.

Also use a fresh factory coolant bottle cap Roger has them

Flowmaster Y214300 - Flowmaster Scavenger Series Y Collectors
Header Collector, Steel, Slip-Fit, 2.25 in. Primary Tube Diameter, 3.0 in. Collector Diameter, Each
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390332818.jpg

Essentially, I have tubular aftermarket headers, with 3" collectors, thru collector reducers to 2.25," thru the Y-pipe, thru 3" tubing to a Magnaflow 3" in dual 2.5" out muffler. (this Y-Pipe can also be used with your factory headers, but the down pipes will need altering). Note also I am not using a catalytic converter. If you have regular smog checks in your area, this setup may not fly.

Thanks for your kind words. Without the help of yourself, Mike Ford and others, this engine may not have happened. The 928 engine doesn't require a Master Mechanic to work on, but conversely, it will not either, suffer fools lightly.

I have MSDS on mine. I was curious if the flowmaster Y pipe angle matched the angle on which the collectors converge.

Great Job !!!! are those Also Euro Heads or just the Cams ? did the Cam require different Valve Springs / retainers . You in Las Vegas ?
I bet just the Cams are a big help and add lots of power on the top end

They are standard '83 4.7s heads. The stock cam specs for that motor are: .435/.395 . So far, I've experienced zero compatibility problems. It's not quite as "snappy" down low, but at 2000rpm its about equal, and at 4000 rpm, power is muchly improved. I kinda want a full '84-85 euro now (or better... an S4!:)) I hope my wife gets out of law school soon, so she can buy me one! (my luck, she'll just buy more horses.:()
BTW- I live n Pahrump..A little town 60 miles NW of Vegas. (I'm 15 minutes from the Spring Mountain Race track)

Nice work, another 928 back on the road.

Don't forget the cover for the jump post and 14 pin, the plastic shield that clips to the fender.

Y merge looks pretty good for $44 shipped, I'm tempted to get one instead of letting the local guy "make one". Flowmaster Scavenger Series Collectors - Free Shipping on All Orders @ JEGS

My wife recorded it. I will put it on Pelican by next week. Beware though.. the headers were "uncorked". It sounds like a Grand National stock car

 That's nothing since I went to me and my families first Monster Jam last Saturday and I didn't wear any hearing protection. My hearing is already jacked up from the days of Walkmans. Here's a jammin video I took of a crash rolling towards us.

pulled my exhaust system to install the Y pipe (replacing the MSDS unit) I fabbed up from a flowmaster unit. I must say that the engine feels stronger everywhere. :)
