Tranny question - 84- 928 great.
I have a 1984 Porsche 928. The car runs and drives great. The tranny shifts great up and down thru the gears, BUT. When I lift off the gas in forth gear it sometimes pops out of gear. If I hold a slight pressure on the shifter it is ok. Is this an adjustment or a sign of some other problem???

Yup did that too
Two years ago I put a new 5 speed in my 78. It was doing the same thing in 1st and 5th. Started when I changed gear oil to some slick 50 gear lube. (see dumb move). Changed back to swepco but it was to late.
My son and I changed out the trans in a weekend what a wrestling match. the Chiltons manual had a very good step by step. Something to try 1st is replacing the rear shift rod coupling. Mine was shot! Going to get at the front one someday soon. |
