First Post Hibernation Drive!

I had a great time today running errands in my 1983S, with my Son.

I don't think i could ever part with this car.

Anyone else in the Northeast get out today?

Edit: don't you just love 928 front fenders from this angle (and that reflected 'S" that is always present)?

it's a man's car and an automotive work of art.

I drove mine two times since November. The winter here has been really bad. There were a few days of dry pavement so I took it out. After sitting for 3 months it started right up but I keep it in a warm garage. Amazing how fast the heat comes up, only after a few minutes of running.

AirtekHVAC 03-09-2014 05:30 PM

Looks real good Matt!

Crumpler 03-09-2014 05:52 PM

Hey Bud.
Looking great, tell me about the windshield wiper, another modification?

Taking mine out right now, I've calculated that Sunday night is my best driving time to avoid Johnny Law.
Cheers.

Lookin' good, fixer.

Real bad here too, hit a couple potholes du jour today too.
Mine fired up like it was an exited dog ready for a walk.

Dave i just deleted one wiper and its share of the mechanism and lengthened the other side to increase swept area. bigger wiper blade, not rocket science.

Good calculus on J.Law. I was thinking the same today as my Son and I revved through the gears. He loves the 928. Great Boy.

I'll bet your glad Spring is coming. I hope to be following you too Dave!

Like the wiper, it has a very cool Le Mans feel to it, in my opinion.

Thanks Dave, just went a touch overboard as usual. The best alteration for me was removing the sunroof.
There is so much headroom now Dave and it was about 40 lbs of weight savings. The sunroof itself is much heavier than it looks.
That's a lot of weight that high up i would think when cornering at high speeds.

How is yours running since all the maintenance? Also, what oil are you using? I think i'm switching to Royal Purple 20W/50
Dave, i never get to see another 928 in the flesh, please post a pic of you Porsche in bright sunlight here.

I couldn't agree more, it was a tough one this year. i know your Winters are even colder.
Have you had your's out yet?

Post some pics of your '83 5-speed antsmands please, i'd really like to see it.

Crumpler 03-10-2014 05:24 PM

Hey Matt, in regard to oil I'm still running Mobil 1 "European" 0-40. PO had used it and I just kept doing it.

I will try and clean her up and take some pics. this spring.
She's running very well, but I have one more issue I'm working on, she will hunt from 600 to 1200 rpm on a cold start.

I have an ISV coming from Roger, Temp II is new, checking for vacuum leaks, etc.
Then I plan on just driving her this summer and stoke up some cheddar for my top end refresh next fall.
Regards.

Fixer 03-10-2014 05:54 PM

Dave, I hate 'the hunt' probably is the ISV. Hope so.

My 911 did this (really bugged me) for a year or so and it turned out to be the
performance chip that didn't age too well i guess.

I hope your oil is good, i always see the 928 Elders recommending 20/50 minimum for these engines to prevent premature trust bearing wear.
Once warmer i'd go heavier if i were you and better than Mobil 1.
Does your car need to pass emissions in IL?(do you still have a exhaust catalyst)

AirtekHVAC 03-10-2014 06:33 PM

Don't think she'll be ready in time Matt....too many irons in the fire....ya never know tho'

I might tow her up again....still debating......need a windshield too....

If i end up going you can drive mine with me. That would be fun. I like riding shot gun.

You "need" a front S Spoiler :D

Yea I have noticed over the years that the elders have been right every time so I probably need to change.
No emission testing for me!!!

Last thing to change, everything wants to eat that spoiler when a new tasty one is on.

No, I am still in storage at my cousins house so not out yet, still tooooooo messy in Chicago. I will take pics as soon as the weather allows. I think is have pics in my photo album on here and for sure on Rennlist. Feel free to check them out!

Leo, i was just think that the other day. They look great, especially when new. I will make one though that doesn't get damaged as easily,
will be adding an air to oil cooler up front as well so it will be designed with this oil cooler placement in mind. (It will protrude in the middle of the spoiler
to extend under the 16" oil cooler)

I asked because the real 'good stuff' oils are not cat friendly. I will be switching as well.
928 Classics carries Brad Penn 20/50 high perf oil, I may use this.

So right as usual Mike.
I do wish i could use one but i think i'd tear it up just leaving the shop.
Lowering the car as per Mark A.'s advice with S4 springs and bought new Koni adjustables..

I went on a job interview in Chicago after College, drove there in December with my now Wife Astrid, we had just met. It took 15 hours in her GTI from Philly.
We walked the whole city over that week, great food but boy was it chilly.
Nice city, must be great in nicer weather. You really appreciate Spring i bet.
I looked at your garage pics here antsmands but the res isn't the best.
