Are two temp II sensors? Because there is one sensor on each side of the thermostat housing. And also are the ignition coil ballasts located in the very front and also referred to as "end stage ignition"? If so I replaced them with new ones:( this is frustrating, kinda heartbreaking... I changed a ton of parts with new ones and it is still being stubborn!

Check page 31 of the 1988 wiring - no ballast resistors, they are built into the coils. The two units in the front are the final stages. Temp II is the back of the 2 sensors, if it is bad then a difficult start condition can occur.

Ok I ordered new coils thats another $220 in the pot. I hope this fixes it good God! Lol

I'm sorry but just throwing more $$ at it most likely won't fix it.
I doubt very much that both coils are bad.

WSM vol 1A page 24-115 for TPS check procedure.

Check the Temp II sensor as well, that could very well be causing your problems. WSM 1A page 24-114.

Where are you located, it sounds like you could use some good local help.

I replaced the temp II sensor already and the TPS...lol St. Augustine Florida come visit!

Lots of stuff changed at the same time, good chance something is wrong.

You really need to put model year in your sig file, too easy to get people and cars confused.

Ok so I'm really almost there honest...after being sick for 2 weeks and working and attending a wedding I installed the new ignition coils checked the fuel regs they are good it started fine idled very high would not come down I fiddled with the quad cables on the side of the intake and it came down a lot how do I adjust the idle properly??? Please

Niles 03-29-2014 07:40 PM

The throttle cables can be adjusted. The sleeve is threaded. Ensure your cable (the one that goes under the intake) is as long as possible so that the cable is not holding the throttle open. Otherwise, the idle speed is determined by the computer based upon inputs it is receiving from various sensors. There was recently a discussion on that other forum where a high idle was caused by a faulty MAF. I am currently experiencing a high idle myself, and will be doing some troubleshooting as well.

Thanx Niles I hope I can find a happy medium for all the sensors involved! I gotta get this car into paint! And btw the MAF is a fresh rebuild from Roger.
