I disagree. $800 spent on the t-belt is a plus if you decided to sell. Every bit of maintenance on these cars goes along way in showing care and condition. I kept the receipt for wiper blades on mine!

camo restoring a car over time is amazingly frustrating. I had a 1966 Nova that I drove/restored and it took 7 years. And after it was all done I think I put 200 miles on it when life forced me to sell it.

Enjoy what you have while you have it, sock money away when you can, and you will need a large amount of patience.

BUT, if this just isn't the car for you that insurance work will add a small bit of value if you want to sell it, but by all means fix it even if you want to sell it when its done.

I see your point, but I mean I don't count that because it's something I'd have to do to any car, regardless of whether you're restoring it or not. But I definitely agree with what you're saying.

Yeah, iI'm just impatient and get discouraged easily. Once I start seeing progress I believe it will be much easier. Especially once I get a job after I finish this term. This is my first car, as I'm 18, and I still have little knowledge of, and experience with cars.

I do think I would be happier to keep the car. And it made my sister mad at me when I told her I was going to sell it. I just always want the easy way out when something goes wrong. But I'll get over it! :D

There are a couple of guys that know the 928 well and do paint, and seem to be able to hook owners up with a nice paint job for $12k to $15k, both on the east coast. Two big factors on cost, the rubber that should be removed and replaced is expensive, like $3k and only generally sold by Porsche, and the car is going to be in the shop a LONG time waiting between the stages a good paint job requires.

Its just not that hard to find a car with good paint at a reasonable price, no point in paying the cost of a nice car to get paint that will show its lack of value within a few years.

I agree that I could find a car with better paint at a reasonable price, but selling mine is the problem. People around here simply do not want one. Everyone loves it, I get stares and complements all the time. But nobody wants to own one. I've listed it multiple times during the time I've owned it and the best offer I've had was a trade for a Rav-4.

Also I'd probably have to travel to California to find another one, as they're not very plentiful here. There is another Weissach about an hour away, but it's in far worse shape than mine..

My plan is to get it as close to perfect inside and mechanically. And maybe a few years down the road, get a paint job.

In the above picture, you can see a slight bubbling in the dash. This is one thing that drives me crazy. I need to take care of this before it gets worse. Has anyone had this happen?

The seat controls are hanging off. They're hard to push due to the E-brake being in the way. When I get it the car, the brake presses the button that raises the seat. I thought my car was haunted for the longest time..

I plan on eventually cleaning up, possibly painting (?) the spider. Probably when I do a fuel line replacement. Hopefully this summer. I would also like to replace the foam thing on the underside of the hood. I've seen a cool black one with a Porsche emblem. I will also paint that black bar running along the compartment.


If I wasn't so busy, and by busy I mean lazy, I'd at least have the car clean...

That car is still pretty darn clean for what you spent/what you have into it. I paid $4k for mine 5 years ago and have spent probably 7-8K in parts over 5 years, and I still have crappy paint + scratches + few door dings and a warped interior. But hey, I drive it, and people still enjoy seeing it on the road, notwithstanding the imperfect paint and bodywork.

The fact that your car is a Weissach and still on the road is awesome. Pick away at it slowly, don't sell it. How many people do you hear say they regret keeping a car???

And yes, get one of those nice black hood liners with a fancy decal, worth every penny! :cool:

IIRC, there is nothing spectacularly different about the cassette holder in your Weissach( the place where you put your right elbow while driving).
In other words,I don't think it is a special color leather or anything.
If that is, in fact, the case, you can probably find one on EBay or from 928Intl or maybe from a Forum member with that tan color of interior.
I think that one of the things that is special about the Weissach editions is the two-toned interior, although I don't believe that either of the two colors by itself, is special.

But I could be wrong :)

Camo I don't see much wrong with your car than I have seen with just about every other one out there. Even my 61,000 mile 83 has some warping on the rear panels like that. The other 83 I looked at had the exact same thing.
Console lid is readily available, get some 3M Contact Adhesive and stick that carpeting back on for now. I've seen DIY pod recovering somewhere, just have to see if you can get that color.
Tail light crack is easy peasy.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I love the car, I just feel like there's so much to do. I'm gonna start chipping away at it though! I'll probably be asking more advice on how to fix some of these issues! Unless I can find it elsewhere.

My plan is to:
1. Replace fuel lines
2. Tint windows, I think it will improve its looks, and help protect the interior.
3. Get new shocks
4. Fix up interior
5. Get a paint job

hopefully I don't have any more mechanical issues pop up! hah

I have reattached the driver side door carpeting using a carpeting adhesive. It will work for now. It looks good but the wood is rotten and there's no telling how long that will hold up.

Has anyone replaced the wood there?

I also replaced the brake wear sensor that was causing the brake pr (!) light to come on. Hopefully after disconnecting the battery that will stop.

Just reset and drove around for a few minutes. No warning light!

The next thing on my list is the bubbling dash. Has anyone had this issue? I'm thinking an 18 Guage hypodermic needle and some kind of glue. Not sure where I'll get the needle yet!

Edit: now the warning light is back lol

Leather on the dash has started to shrink, there is no easy/cheap fix, it needs new leather.

When my first 928 was 5 years from new and 60k miles it had started just the same as yours is. Next stage it lifts completely from the curved section, then starts to pull away from the vents.

Any idea approximately how much that costs?
