That's crazy Nice car, but you get a 2007 997 Turbo for less with less miles...

There are very few of these built for north americal market and even fewer manuals. This one looks in very good condition with relatively low miles.

For a car with only 56K miles I wonder why so much work was done?

Replaced synchros in gearbox (over $6,000)
Custom header and complete exhaust system (over $10,000)
Rebuilt torque tube
Shark tuned chip (original chips included)
New clutch, pressure plate, and resurfaced flywheel

Not necessarily. In a car that is 21 years old with only 56k miles? That means it's been sitting for much of its life. When it comes to driving these cars hard, that's not going to break them, per se. Keep in mind, that they were designed to be driven hard all day long on a nice long autobahn. These 'GT' cars seem to be happiest when you're giving them the beans! Having them sit will, however, kill them slowly.

That's ~2.6K miles/year!

For sure, and that's an incredible car as well, but let's see where the values of these cars are in 20 years? The 928 GTS is a true collectors car, and I imagine it will only continue to go up in value, and exceed the price of the 997 Turbo by a considerable margin as the years go by.

Sadly, I see people buying these low mileage examples and displaying them in garages (or as investments)... never (or hardly ever) to see the road again.

Top end, synchros, torque tube, clutch and steering rack don't fall apart from sitting. It's from being beat to hell or extremely high mileage.
Considering the condition of the body and that Liberace interior, the mileage is probably correct. What does that leave?

I'd also like to know what the hell the exhaust system is made of in that he has $10,000 invested into it.

As for mileage? - Carfax should clarify that. California documents miles on vehicles so that should be fairly easy to track down. OR

Are you suggesting it was RACED? Not likely, but I suppose it's possible. These cars were purpose built to go very fast for extended periods of time, and (generally) handle that abuse, with proper maintenance - which even if that were the case, the owner addressed right? - so who cares? Just makes for a more interesting story for the car. Steering rack SEALS fall apart from sitting, which would necessitate total replacement by an overzealous or greedy repair shop. Synchros bad after 56k miles? Really? I suppose if you are that BAD of a driver, with the assistance of a sledgehammer to shift. perhaps. Maybe just had a bad build. If the car was severely abused, synchros may not even last 1/10th of that time. Those components are measured in HOURS under such severe (racing) conditions.
Torque tube could've gone bad early on, and replaced outside of warranty. Anyone who had 10K to blow on an exhaust system probably has enough money to blow on refurbishing items that are considered WEAK points on the car. THAT seams more likely. Just because someone had tons of money to spend on a car, doesn't mean it was abused.

Only way to tell is to take the essentials apart, and have an expert examine them.

My car had 38K on it when I go it. I had all the repair history. Nothing but "normal" servicing. No such things as upper head work, steering rack, torque tube, trans work.
I would say the car in question was raced and beat hard!

When you consider what new cars cost today, $50K is not that much. If you look at what a 928 cost in it's day, considering inflation, today it would be at least $150K. A well kept 928, not modified is just going to go up in value. I believe in keeping them as stock as possible, enjoy the car, drive it and enjoy. It's a fun car to drive, handles fantastically, fast enough to get you in a lot of trouble without 800HP. Besides, all these new big HP cars are bought for prestige, most who by them could not handle them at speeds exceeding 150MPH or more.

OTOH given the location this could be a car Greg Brown has gone through and made like new, which could make it very nice indeed depending on if what was done suits the potential buyer, but as it isn't marketed that way, hard to guess, but yes it does seem priced not to ever sell.

One just has to question this particular car with what has been given. It could be all fact and a really great car but I would need some really good, sound substantiated proof. It just does not sound right to me.

All in all, the current owner invested over $33,000 maintaining and improving this rare GTS. Greg Brown of Precision Motorwerks in Anaheim, CA (one of the top Porsche 928 specialists in the country) performed all of the work for the current owner. He used this car to develop a custom exhaust system that produced an additional 23hp and 12lb ft torque. See pictures for dyno results as well as this video of the run:

I remember this car well. I tried to buy it from the original owner back in the early 2000's with the intent on reselling it. The owner lived in the Phoenix area if I remember correctly and was asking $35K for the car when it had roughly 32,000 miles on it. It was special ordered for his wife new. We tentatively agreed on $32K, but a middleman broker (who would later become a good friend of mine), swooped in with the promise of getting him more money for the car. And he did. He listed it on Ebay and sold it for $47K. It would have sold for even higher, but he sold it early to someone off of Ebay. It's definitely appreciating in value though. Very beautiful car!

I other words, this is some sort of a test car, right?? I bet it was hot rodded, pushed, driven hard. No wonder it needed all the premature work done on it. I would keep away from this one!
