Thumbs up New Toy!!!!

Hi, all, this is my first post in this section of the forum. I recently sold my 66 911 and was already going through withdrawal, so yesterday I bought a 1988 928S4 with just shy of 90,000 miles on it. It's Guards Red with a black interior that is one of the nicest 928 interiors I've seen. No cracks or warps! One minor tear in the driver seatback bolster. The car is very straight and no sign of any rust anywhere. The timing belt was done about 18,000 miles ago, but it was over ten years ago, so that will be an immediate project. It came with a complete tool kit and a set of Porsche shop manuals. This is the first 928 I've ever driven, and I like it!! There are a number of little projects to do on the car (antilock light is on, rear hatch doesn't stay latched, power mirrors don't function, dash lights are inop, .....) but nothing major. I'm looking forward to being on this section of the forum more often!

There is a fine group of owners in the Atlanta area if you need any support, advice or parts. You should try to get connected:

new to the club also...

Incidentally, I just purchased a 1987 S4 yesterday too. Mine is a grayish blue color (my first Porsche ownership experience). The interior is a peanut butter color. It has 114K on it. Runs well but there is yet much discovery to be done.

Well, I've already started. The car doesn't really need much. I checked the crankshaft thrust bearing preload/endplay yesterday. Found a bit of preload and the end play was close to .3mm, so I'll keep an eye on that. The biggest immediate need is a set of rear tires. I'm trying to find some 245/45/16's, which is proving to be difficult..... The previous owner forgot to give me the key to the wheel locks. He's supposed to mail it, but I may have to resort to other means to get the wheels off. Other than a few burned out light bulbs and removing the mess of wiring that a previous owner installed to run some stereo equipment, the only other "big" projects are the timing belt and the air conditioning.

Nice looking car for sure. You will find all sorts of info here. Basically, everyone starts out by cleaning the relay and fuse panel. Clean all contacts and grounds. Next is usually the timing belt depending on age and mileage. Then change the filters, change fluids, etc.

Tires: Tire Rack has a big selection, you might try them.
