how to replace intake boots?
 

I have an 84 porsche 928 i need to replace the intake boots and tboot on the intake next to the throttle body i was wondering if anyone could provide the step by step process or somewhere where that is already done it would be greatly appreciated.

I found it to be pretty easy. I am assuming you have a 16v. I just removed the spider (plenum) body, replaced all my vacuum lines, cut off my old boots, and cleaned the spider legs ( I never removed the legs), I then used wd40 as a lubricant, and slid them onto the legs, past their stop point, replaced the body, and then slid them back into place. Viola! Done.

I wouldn't use WD40, when it dries it glues the rubber to the metsl, a little soapy water should work fine.

Haha I'm putting my center intake piece in right now and found out the hard way about the wd-40. Soap water is a good idea!

Thanks guys im currently just diving into it i have to remove air intake housing then the bolts to the injectors then take fuel rails out just to take the spiders off but i've got some leaky gaskets at the base of the spiders so im just replacing all the gaskets its a pain to get to all these bolts to get them off so for anyone doing this in the future patience!!! is very important especially when removing the fuel rails. Ill post some pics later

Most of what we do is just dive right in. We've all done Intake refreshes and it mostly self explanatory.

Weird on the WD....I have slid mine on and off a few times with no issues....maybe I used something different...I am closing in on 45, and my memory is slipping...it was like, 2 years ago....

At least there's one thing you can count on to slip... :D

Yeah I was just putting the intake back together and then I noticed one of my injector o rings was missing 25% of its seal so instead of being able to have this thing finished up I have to wait one more day for the part to come in! love the car though only has 74k on it and its the first time any real work has been done on it besides having the oil changed and the exhaust upgraded (done by previous owner). I have really enjoyed working on the car and this job while simple is tedious if you only have basic tools. Once the car is done I plan to post some pics plus a summary of what to do for the next guy who comes along looking for how to do this.

All of the injector seals are likely hardened and not sealing well, rubber bits were not made to last 30 years in engine heat.

does anyone know the torque specifications for the bolts that bolt the intake to the engine I've looked in the repair manuals but I can't find them there or online :confused:

Not sure on spec but with hose clamps/rubber I don't think you want more then 4ftlb

I'm guilty of over tightening hose clamps.
