annoying chime?

my 1984 928s has a chime dinging constantly? no other central warning system lights are on . sometimes a hard bump will interrupt it then back to driving me crazy.

Do the interior lights work in door switched mode?, do you wear a seat belt?

It is supposed to chime for: seatbelt warning, when the key is in the ignition + ignition off + door open; marker lights on + key out + door open; parking lights (L or R) + key out + door open.

Most common factor is door open, but that alone is not enough, key out switch may also be dodgy it is near the ignition switch on steering arm.

My 83 does the chimes, but also sometimes all the warning lights, so in my case I am thinking the central warning box needs replacing or contacts cleaned.

annoying chime

thanks Alan in AZ I have door lights switched off but now that you mention it when int. lights are on & I hit a bump lights would flicker and chime would go on &off. I will check the pin switch in the door jam, thanks

If the pin switches don't work - your door end lights may be permanently on - you can check by simulating the door closed by pushing the pin switch in - do the door end lights stay on?

I had the same problem on my 84 once. It was a bad relay, and that relay is located under the ashtray behind/under the center console. I just pulled the relay out and problem solved. The relay in question has a bunch of holes on the top in case you aren't sure whether you are looking at the correct one.

That relay is the chime unit, it doesn't chime anymore because the thing that chimes isn't there ! ;)
