Burnt out fuse
I just bought a 1983 928. I was told it had a bad fuel pump. Of course that wasn't the case. It looks like someone may of put in wrong fuse causing it to overload and burn board. Is there anywhere to get a new board? Car still gets power to windows, car starts by jumping fuel pump, dash warning lights come on but no dash light and or radio.

Check with Mark at 928 international for replacement. You need the wiring diagrams an need to trace along any/all affected harnesses. When that kind of damage happens it is guaranteed that the harness wires are burned, melted together and might have cross feeds. Disconnect battery and do.t reconnecting til you've inspected all. BTDT.

I think you should certainly remove the panel & check the wires on the back for overheating.
However I think its far from certain that there was any over-current situation... this could have been solely caused by a poor fuse contact (due to corrosion) ... I'd like to see a better close up of the damage area for a better idea of what happened. Your panel may look ugly but it can probably be cleaned up quite a bit and all the fuse contacts cleaned much better. I think you need a better evaluation before deciding to swap it out. CE Panels are pretty year specific and also vary depending on Auto/Manual, USA/ROW for installed fuse & relays. Alan

For some reason these fuse panels and fuses seem to have corrosion issues. I pulled all mine when I got the car and cleaned them up. I would recommend using Dexoit on all contacts in that panel.

I would dare say all of us have some experience with this....it is usually poor connections that cause this, as already stated. By far, the easiest fix is go to 928intl. A creative soul could rebuild it....but I would suspect it is not too expensive to get a good recycled one.
If your CE panel is in that sort of shape, I would not even attempt another start without replacing ALL the rubber fuel lines. GOOD LUCK,

It's straightforward to remove the panel and inspect the wiring, both behind the panel itself and throughout the distribution connections that are readily visible. Any melts that you might find on wires leaving the bottom row of plugs, for instance, will not be isolated to that locale, but will likely have cook all along that section of harness. When you remove the panel, I encourage you to remove the right carpet covered panel over the side of the center console and also inspect those wires. Its just one if the standard procedures when checking out your new car. Those wires are prone to issues due to either radio install sins or mouse nesting, or issues caused be emptying ashtray and damaging the illumination socket. very popular place. Advice that fuse damage is very isolated is very good, you might not even need the panel replaced. Alan, it would be great if you could post your 83 panel rendering! Or tell us where we can buy the whole set

One reason not to change out the panel on an '83 is that it is the one year I have been having real trouble with. Even beyond USA/ROW/Auto/Manual there are different configurations of panels & at least 2 version of the owners manual. Fuses for the fuel pump in particular vary in location between these two configs. Usually the configs are related to a clear vehicle feature or region - but that is not at all clear in this particular case - many anomalies.
It in fact may be an issue that affects this no run case. In one config the fuel pump fuse is #22 in the other it is #13... Posting the current status diagram would not lead to clarity here... Alan
