Fuel pump check valve washers

Wondering if someone can help I have a 1985 928S. The fuel pump check valve was JB welded together so after cleaning it and buying a new check valve and installing it ran great. But then after about a week it started dripping fuel out of were the check valve meets the pump. So this is my order of installing pump/copper washer/check valve/copper washer/line that feeds the filter/copper washer/ then nut. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the order, somebody smarter will be with you in a minute, but you can't reuse the copper washers, so get a few extra.

You should have a shop manual which can be had online. That JB Weld sound like an amateur fix of sorts. When I did mine I just went to my local foreign car shop and he gave me the washers for free.

the order sounds fine - probably the washers - they get slightly crushed and grooves are pressed into them - I have been able to sometimes re-use them by sliding them along a flat file until they are smooth again - they are hard to find locally - NAPA has some they use on brake lines

the shop manuals show pump/some washer doesn't say/check valve/copper washer/line that feeds filter/copper washer/screw. So there is a mysterious washer .

call Roger get a new fuel filter a new short hard line, 6 new sealing washers (3 will be spares)
some Loctite PTFE pipe sealant
Put a small amount of the sealant onto the new check valve install a new washer then tighten this into your pump.
NOTE it may be time for you to also install a new pump, new pump comes with new check valve so you can leave the check valve alone.
What happens is that the short hard line gets deformed by over tightening it because the old sealing washers are reused always use new washers as they are one time use

When you tighten the fitting the washer conforms, but it also work hardens. Filing will not change that and it will not work properly unless it tempered or annealed or something hot, I forget which.

What is the life expectancy of the 928 fuel pump?? Most pumps last at least 150K miles or more. Maybe it's most of the 928's have that or more.

very true - I actually use new ones if they are readily available like when they come with a new pump - I use the filing "method" sometimes when i'm getting a seeping leak - had a leak on an 84 power steering pump which also uses copper washers - smoothing them out with a file did indeed stop the leak - these washers usually come with new pumps and brake fittings but are hard to find if the washer is all you need

Heat until it glows red, allow to slowly cool. Don't heat on the fuel lines or pump.
