A capped off vacuum line. It looks like the line that goes to the hot water valve for the heater?

White line should be easy to follow, where does it go?

I think it's an emergency engine pull-start cord.

hi I will check and reply back to these once the car comes back from the garage. its gone in for a selector cable repair. I was just getting myself ready for the next job
'hot air coming through to the cabin not cold' will be going through the vacuum test and heater control swap out. then if required start changing out the actuators. excellent write ups on this job on rennlist should this line be capped off???? or should it be connected somewhere. the white pipe I'm thinking its the heater valve line, hence the route i'm going down to do the vacuum test. thanks for the info. so far though.

That white line should be coming from the 4 way by the brake booster(where the blue one-way valve is located), so yes, it should be capped otherwise you would have a vacuum leak. I would venture to say that your hot water valve was not working prior to the line being removed and capped. The default for that valve is open, so you WOULD be getting hot air into the cabin.

Heater Valve -
I agree with the others - this vacuum line should probably be connected to the heater (hot water shut off valve) control valve located in the center of the fire wall behind the lower half of the air filter assembly. If the heater control valve is disconnected from it's vacuum source - it falls to the full open position which runs hot water through the interior heater core.
Sometimes an owner will plug the vacuum source and zip tie the plastic arm of the heater control valve to the closed position (hot water can no longer flow into the interior heater core) because the vacuum diaphragm inside the valve has failed. As a temporary fix this will disable the heater during a hot summer. Normally the needed parts are put on order and replaced before winter arrives. Perhaps the zip tie came off the heater valve control arm leaving you the lack of temp control. Good Luck, Michael

You should also have a rubber seal along the top of the firewall, can't see if you have one or not from the pict.
