Anyone wanna do a transmission swap (trade)

Ok, so I was givin a standard five speed transmission from Ramon (I forget his stage name) He's a member of this forum and lives here in Idaho as well.

The transmission came out of a car that was rear ended with only 30k on the odometer, this was back twenty or so years ago and has been kept inside and dry the entire time.

I was very excited to put it in my '84 but luckily before I was about to tear out my transmission, I discovered that it is a 28.03 and I need a 28.05.

So this transmission I have is for '78 through June 13th 1980.

I'm so bummed. I was like a kid on Christmas eve last night...couldn't wait to swap them out.

Now I have a 5 speed transmission that I believe is in wonderful shape. The fluid was still clean even and didn't have that awful tranny fluid smell.

It is Non LSD

I am looking for someone out there that might have a 28.05 with or without LSD that might be really wanting a good .03?

Thought I'd put it out here first. My other option is to try and sell it on Ebay and put the money towards an .05 if I can find one.

If you have one, PM me and let me know what you think.

I did that swap, you just need a different torque tube, shift linkage and tranny cradle.

Weigh that against the virtual certainty that any replacement used trans you find will need to be rebuilt.

I will look into that. The gear ratio is different as well correct? What should I look into replacing Danglerb if all the parts and pieces look good. Not even sure where to start with that one unless you just mean buy all new synchros etc regardless. I bet I can find those early model torque tubes and things laying around. Thanks guys. That gives me hope again. Offer is still out there though for now.

I've watched Greg Brown rebuild half a dozen transmissions, not just being in the same room, but actually watching closely and having things explained and pointed out. I wouldn't even think of trying to rebuild one without being in his shop so I could double check what little I have retained. Tricks vary from model to model as well.

Greg says almost half the transmissions he rebuilds come from unhappy customers who paid some other shop to rebuild it and it still have serious issues.
