#30 to get a roommate

Well, I think I might be adding another "project" to the stable.

Because I have so much time on my hands why not? (Read as self directed sarcasm)

I have negotiated a price, and sent a deposit on a 1982 5 speed. I'll post more details later. Going to get her next weekend (5 hr drive for me). If all is as described, I'll bring her home. I don't need another project, but as many of you know, before I knew how special #30 was, I was going to paint her white, and convert interior to tan. Since I decided to go original with 30, I was just watching and waiting for one in my favorite combo to pop up, and it did. Here is a sneak peek. If the deal goes through, I'll post a more detailed thread.

Ron,

Good luck, with the purchase.

Will this car be a parts car for #30 or a driver to get you through until #30 is done?

Either way, best of luck!

It's funny, I was looking for more of a "project" when I bought this car...but it turned out being in better shape than I imagined (especially for a 31 year old car). So, I just drive it and tinker with small stuff. Kind of wanted an engine out project...so the search for such a project continues...and the pleading with my wife do her side of the garage...lol.

Brian.

First off, title should read "roomie", not rookie... Dang phone spell checker! I tried to fix it, and it won't let me.
(ok, think it's fixed now)

This is a driver, and future resto project, something to tool around with while 30 gets the proper medical attention she deserves.

Hey Brian, just go get a metal barn building (if you have the lot for it), and then you won't need her side of the garage! That's what I did!

There are plenty of project 928s around here, wish I could save them all, but I can't...need to be selective.

Speaking of wives, mine is none too happy about this car, she is putting her foot down, so looks like it will be a while before I can squeeze a 32v in my barn......but one day.....

Oh come on...buy mine. It will be coming out of the shop with nice cold AC this week or next, and a stack of receipts an inch thick that you can wave in her face, "but honey, everything's been DONE!". White on tan...grey on brown...close enough!

Lol.....I don't think that I could by a wheel off either of your cars for what I'm getting this car for.....I'm getting a great deal, I'll reveal the price when it's in my possession. Don't want to blow it.

The very first 928 I ever saw was a brand new white 79 in Napa/Sonoma in 1979. Smooth and rounded and very clean and slick. The owner had just picked it up the day before and traded a 240Z for it.

That's the first day I fell in love with a car.

Something special about white, and then to find a tan interior 5 speed to boot? It is a project tho, the current owner flips cars as a hobby, an amateur car dealer. Put 2 kids through college fixing them up and selling (cars, not kids). He said he prepped and painted the car and wheels himself. He said it was original white, but had a lot of surface rust coming through. He sanded, prepped and painted. Said its a solid 10footer. He was doing this one for himself, but just took a job traveling, and did not want to spend his time home working on a car. Brakes, clutch good. Engine runs strong, but with a miss. He replaced fuel pump and rubber lines (don't know if he did it right). Said he thought the FPR was causing the miss, so he put a generic, adjustable one in...unfortunately he did it wrong and cut the hard line....looks like I'll be replacing that. I'll then go through all the vacuum and rubber lines, including injectors. He also said the windows don't go down, and 1/2 of the instruments work. Said all exterior lighting and turn signals work properly. He deleted the rub strips himself, prior to paint, and filled with bondo (using a backer of some type) not sure about that, but not worried about it either. Can't tell by pic if there is a sunroof, and forgot to ask. Interior needs work, as you can see, and he said the AC does not work....I don't know who can fix that!

He seemed very honest and forthcoming, so I don't have too high expectations, but I am getting it for not much more than I paid for 30, and its drivable......stay tuned.

Got her home. It is certainly a project, with fuel line and vacuum refresh, as the PO butchered and made a mess of it all.....no biggie.

I'll start a new thread on her soon....btw, I paid $ 1,300, AND it has a complete tool kit.

Nice looking trailer Ron, nice car too.

Sometimes people don't know how serious I am about finding the "right" 928, it has to be pretty close to exactly what you want, or most people fall out of love.

Yup. Thanks, it is a borrowed trailer. Belongs to a friend of mine who owns an auto shop and salvage yard. It's his tire hauler.....funny thing tho, when I went to get it, it had 2 flats, and was sitting where I left it 2years ago, when I took #30 to SITM . He said I was the last to use it, but he won't part with it. A 928 fits perfect on it...the big drawback is you can't open the doors, so I have to crawl out the hatch.....good thing I'm vertically challenged.

Yup. Get this one running so I got a driver, and then start hammering on 30 again. 30 is way ahead of this one as far as fuel and vacuum system go, this one way ahead with everything else....but 30 is a couple years or more from completion, this one will be my driver until 30 is to a happy place, then this one will go through her resto. Then I gots 2 sweet 5 speeds...yay me!
