Adding chin spoiler -- need help

Hi everyone,

Sacrilegious or not I wish to add a chin spoiler to my '82. This, of course, requires some hole drilling. Hoping someone might be able to help me out by either pointing me in the right direction or providing me with a template for drilling the fender.

This is what the spoiler looks like (as if you didn't know):

Thanks!

I didn't mine by fitting it up and marking it, no template. I seems to remember have to do some cutting of the front bumper where the brake ducting goes too.

Just send your spoiler to me. I'll install it on the Stepson and take pictures for you as I install it. When you see what a PITA it is, you'll rethink installing one on your car. Plus, without a front spoiler, you won't grit your teeth every time you accidently pull too far over a bumper stop and your front spoiler drags coming off of it.

Just trying to look out for you. :)

I suspected as much. Still I might try a piece of cardbord to make the fit as best I can.

Thanks. ☺

You're all heart! 😄

And that's why I will be installing skid plates at the same time.

Do you have the corresponding upper halves of the brake duct opening?

The other problem with adding a front spoiler to a non-S car is that you can't install the actual brake ducts without also swapping out the front fender support brackets on either side, under/behind the headlights. They are a different shape. You will also need to modify the wheel well covers behind the headlights so the brake ducts have somewhere to exit. So unless you go all the way, you aren't really getting the full benefit.

It's answers like this that keep me coming back for me. Hmm, what to do. I checked the front end for the tell-tale 'cutouts'. As expected, there are none; however, in for a penny--in for a pound. :) So, it looks like this will be a bit bigger of a project that first thought. So, here goes. I'll report back later.

Thanks everyone.

I borrowed a front PU cover that had the cutouts,
made a template then went to my PU and cut them with a dremel.

Damn. Is a PU cover a bra?

Who knows. The 928 community is the only one I know that has so many initialisms that a key should be made and put into a sticky atop of every forum.

It's even doubling up...is TBF a Timing Belt Failure or a Thrust Bearing Failure?

PU polyurethane the bumper cover, not a bra.

Opelotus 06-28-2015 03:24 PM

I think the workshop manual has measurements for where to cut out the bumper cover to fit the upper half of the brake duct, in case you can't get your hands on a bumper cover that already has one.

MPDano 06-28-2015 06:27 PM

I did mine on my 81 Euro without a template. Pretty much just put the spoiler next to the body and you can see where the holes need to be made. I never got the ducts so I never made those cuts, that can be done in the future. Make sure to heat that cover before you install it, you'll see why when you try and fit the corners on.
