Danglerb 08-01-2015 07:28 PM

Outside temp I think is the sensor in the fender metal tube portion of the alternator cooling duct.

Big Load 08-01-2015 09:43 PM

cool thanks Danglerb

the reason i ask is because my car came up with this message on Monday then on Thursday the car started over heating in traffic. I took her into the garage and they have told me the overheating is due to the main control unit, flap motor unit has no outputs going to the main fan and front flaps

problem is porsche are not doing this part anymore/ its out off stock now with no dates as to if any more are to be available :(

flap motor control unit (control mechanism) part no. 928.624.129.00.

I have found some on ebay but part no are different. will that still work on my car??? links below.

the other part that is no longer available is the output final stage, part no. 928.618.421.00.

will the below links fit my car even though the part no is different?????SmileWavy

plus does anyone have the part no for the temperature sensor. everyone keeps directing me to the sensor under the side mirror and seems stumped as to what i am talking adout

Mrmerlin 08-02-2015 04:59 PM

Greg Brown rebuilds the fan output final stage,
check out precision motor works in Anaheim.
as far as the flaps goes ,
pull the fuse for the flaps then twist the knob on the motor behind the flaps to open them,
and leave them open.

NOTE IIRC the tempo sensor for your car is inside the left mirror

thanks for the advise Mrmerlin

regarding the temp. sensor. hmmm I also heard it was in the side mirror but have also done a search and am being told its in the fender passenger side.

if it is the side mirror one that needs looking at do i have to connect it back in the side mirror?? can't i just have it wired up some other place? reason i ask this is that its i mission and a half to remove the side mirror to get to the sensor.

regarding the flaps. yes i will keep that as a second option as i would still prefer to have it fixed first.:) plus the fact that the fans are affected i think best i find the part.

does anyone have any for sale??

Mrmerlin 08-03-2015 03:58 AM

the flaps were on the cars for two years then dropped,
as they created more issues than they solved,
unless your operating an a very cold climate I would pull the fuse .

Big Load 08-03-2015 10:12 PM

ok i think i will pull the fuse.

question though does this fuse only affect the flaps from operating??

the control unit does that control the fans and flaps??? or is it the final stage unit that controls the fans

Mrmerlin 08-04-2015 01:22 AM

the fuse runs the flaps only.
IIRC the fans work off a separate controller

does anyone have a wiring drawing of how to correctly wire up the outside temp sensor into the passenger side mirror. i would prefer not to take my side mirror off as it was a b*****h to put on. has anyone wired it up anywhere else.

any quick fixes plus which is the correct part no for the sensor as i cannot find it.

dr bob 08-13-2015 09:05 PM

Wiring for the sensor runs through the door tube, then through the mirror base up into the mirror forward (towards the front of the car) of the glass. The glass comes out by rotating the locking ring, accessible through the hole in the middle under the glass. Once that's out, you be able to see the wiring and the sensor. It pokes down through a small hole in the bezel. The sensor itself is qiuit robust, and the error is that there's an open circuit in the wiring someplace. A favorite failure spot is near that tube at the door hinge. With the inner door panel and the plastic rain shield pulled out of the way, you can access the wiring bundle at either end to test and repair the wiring break.

Big Load 08-14-2015 09:35 PM

cool thats what i thought. but for some reason i cant find the wires. they are not in the mirror or in the door panel. I'm talking about the passenger side. because my side mirrors are the pearl shaped ones (aero) and not original i have the hole for the sensor but the wires for the sensor may have been clipped off in the past.

can any sensor be fitted or does it have to be a particular type? ie any generic side mirror sensor? this is on the assumption i can find the wires. can anyone send me a link to one of these sensors. as i cannot find one. thanks guysSmileWavy

am i looking at something similar to this??

am i looking in the wrong place for the sensor wires?? are they in the driver side and are the wires violet? does it matter which way round they connect. Smile Wavy

Alan in AZ 08-15-2015 08:30 AM

On a LHD car the outside sensor for the digidash is only in the drivers side. It may be quite likely that for a RHD it is in the passenger side (e.g. the same physical mirror housing).

Do you have one installed? At the mirror connector in the door they are both violet one side (order doesn't matter) - on the other side they are Brown/Green & Blue/Green.Also check the connections in the mirror housing.

thanks alan
i will try the drivers side. i cannot find any wires on the passenger side. it is possible they were cut:(

Alan in AZ 08-15-2015 10:08 PM

The temp sensor stick downs from the bottom of the mirror housing, near the car mounting side. Feel under the mirrors for a dimple (or a hole where one would stick through).

Alan

Big Load 08-16-2015 10:28 PM

hi alan
sorry by bad i should have mentioned the side mirrors do not have the sensor installed. who ever fitted these mirrors did not wire up the sensor. hence no dimple on either side .

Alan in AZ 08-19-2015 07:09 AM

Well that would cause it ... the sensor does not come with the mirrors...

Alan
