Strange issue

I don't drive the car much at night but had to turn the head lights on the other evening. I had turned the alarm on when I locked the car. Anyway, I started the car put the head lights on and when I pressed the brake the lights went out, when I let up the lights came back on! I then opened and closed my door and then all worked and I was able to drive home. Seems the alarm does strange things at times.

Hyper-Link Ground

Hey Harborman - It sounds like a ground issue somewhere but it may take a little luck to sort out. There must be some kind of missing hyper-link between the headlight motor, brake lights and ground.

Many 928 owners have reported some very squirrely electrical related malfunctions on their 928. A friend burned the rubber coating off his accelerator cable while chasing down a headlight motor issue. After rerouting a bunch of ground connections in the engine bay, headlight motor and nose cone area, he'd left off the main ground cable attached to the lower right side of the block. When he hit the starter his accelerator cable lit-up like a heater coil. As weird as the problems are on our 928's - the worst part is when we accidentally add a new one that's self inflicted. :)

The funny thing was after the main ground cable was reinstalled his headlight motor problem was now gone.

Good Luck, Michael

Some alarms flash the lights, might be related.

I went through all the grounds I could find a few years ago. I never did remove and clean any of the plugs on the main CE panel however. Maybe I should do that. I did remove and clean all the relays and replaced a number of them. I did clean the block to frame cable. Also put in a new battery ground cable.
