New radiator $$$
 

Hi all

My radiator has developed a leak at the ps end tank. Core seems fine.

Is it possible to repair it DIY? And what does everyone think of the all aluminum 928 Motorsports radiator? I've heard that (like most things out of 928MS) it doesn't fit particularly well.

I ask because a new factory radiator is hideously expensive @ $2,000-2,500, but if it holds up another 38 years, I guess that is all right.

928Int and 928sRus sell a aluminium radiator made by CSF for $595 that fit well according to a thread on Rennlist.

Yup that's a bummer...I would think that as the original rad is aluminium and plastic that trying to DIY would be a tragic waste of your time and money and any patching would be tenuous at best...when my rad split I also stayed away from the over priced Porsche rad...I did look into replacements from Rus, Int, and MS but as I had heard that there may be some issues with proper fitting so I elected to have a heavy duty rad custom made out of copper and brass which can be repaired in the future if needed...it wasn't cheap but it did save me $700.00 over the Porsche rad... just sayin.

Also an option, thanks. But I don't think it's viable here in Denmark as labour costs are astronomical :(

The CSF radiator from the Guys is a perfect fit and functions very well. As is true with everything else under the hood, it is tight getting in.

I've heard you can get the end caps for repairing now. For sure if you try to weld the plastic, you are welding plastic that has age failed, and you will fail at the repair attempt.

I am more than just a little skeptical about that "FaceBook" post above.

I mean, if you paid $800 for a radiator that came with a two year warranty (like ours does) and you had a problem within 6 months, why wouldn't you contact the maker to have it repaired or replaced?

I know I would. We have even stretched our warranties beyond two years under certain circumstances.

Yet we have no record of a claim like that, and I cannot find that post on FB. Makes me wonder who is really posting. Then again, the date on that post is June 2010 so maybe its long gone.

Please be assured that our radiators are top quality, drop right in without modification, and offer the coolest temps possible for your engine. We do not make a "one size fits all" radiator like CSF does. We do not believe that everybody should get a trans oil cooler whether they have an automatic trans or not - its just another failure point and it reduces the amount of coolant in your system. You are better off without it. So we make up the radiator for your car custom, and you get the exact right radiator for your car. There are Nine different radiators for the 928, are you sure you want a "one size fits all solution"?
