New 928 owner here and my new 1980 928 5 speed
Hi, I have so many questions and don't know where to start. Is there a way to get a report with VIN number on what came from the factory. I was surprised to find that my car has no sunroof. I thought all 928's came wth them. It's all original paint and has ever service record since new...even every oil change was documented. Hope to meet up at some of the 928 events.

Nice 1980 -
Hey Baezventures - Obviously you have found a very nice and well maintained 928. As far as a sunroof is concerned the original owner probably had the long list of U.S options in front of him and (for what ever reason) selected "No Sunroof". He may have been a very tall well hung guy and needed the head room.
![]() Here are some of the optioned, specialty and concept 928 models that have shown up over the years.... https://www.google.com/search?q=porsche+928+stationwagon&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi1_rCW6rrJAhWEl4gKHee9DWwQsAQIHg&biw=1366&bih=696#tbm=isch&q=porsche+928+station+wagon&imgrc=_ Again welcome, Michael

Nice looking example, congratulations.
I'd check into the fuel lines, everything under the hood, especially) and whether or not they have been replaced recently. Great fire hazard when one springs a leak. EDIT...Also check your front lower ball-joints. They may be aluminum and are known to fail when worn. Brian. Last edited by The Deputy; 12-01-2015 at 08:21 AM.. |

Wow! You my friend have a very nice and very rare color Porsche 928. Take very good care of it as you own a part of 928 history.

Guys, thank for the feedback. The car came out of Malibu, CA and was bought at Merlin Olsen in Encino. The car has 175k miles and I am hearing some of these cars are running over 600k miles and that the motors just don't seem to wear out and are bulletproof. I plan on running this car as my daily driver. Need to get the AC working but will look for key things I need to refresh to get that working again.

Put a rough idea of your location either in a sig or info below name, it really helps when you need something local to know where you are.
Very nice looking car. Keep the sun off the interior and use good goo on all the leather. Fuel lines we are talking about about are 3 inches long from injector to fuel rail, they can look great and still be oozing gas ready to fail. Engines are strong and rarely fail, everything else including everything attached to the engine is normal Porsche that needs routine service and replacement. If you are not too far from Fullerton, bring it to Precision Motorworks and let Greg Brown do an inspection to give you an idea of what it needs to be a daily driver. Take all meds prior to looking at report. |
