Manifold port '78?

What is the blocked off port on the passenger side exhaust manifold intended for? I noticed it the other day on the '78, but my '86 didn't have it..

Hey Riber - I had read somewhere that on the early cars Porsche had experimented with an exhaust port outlet for some type of EGR-EPA management in the U.S. market. I don't think the results ever worked out as expected or was necessary for that year and their engineers simply tweaked the fuel injection systems to meet our government emissions. At one point Porsche also connected that port to their version of a muffler bearing. :)

On the business side of things - Porsche probably had a warehouse full of semi-machined exhaust manifolds that were used until they were all gone.
