Hatch Receiver Repair

The latest malady is the failure of the electric hatch release. The switch by the drivers seat, and hatch release motor was fine. I was able to open the hatch using a key, so the locking mechanism checked out. But what I discovered, I thought bizarre - the hatch receiver plastic insert was missing entirely! All I found were two tiny pieces near the mechanism... that's it. What happened to the rest of it is beyond me.

I ordered the insert that I found on eBay for $33, though probably available through various 928 parts sites, installed it and now the electric hatch release does what it supposed to. If your electric hatch release isn't functioning, the plastic insert in the receiver could be the culprit, hope this helps!

I have the same problem in that mine is completley missing and not working. I thought about replacing this but couldnt see how it would affect the latch releasing operation so if you could let me know it would be appreciated. Hopefully it would stop the hatch creaking as well.

without that collar the hatch latch will not function as it should ..
NOTE if your pull switch suddenly stops working clean the door pin switches, if still no joy then check the fuses 2 of them,
one for the stop cycle a 1 amp fuse.
and the other for the operation cycle

paul - i also was wondering how this affects the latch - I think those ridges along the rear of the insert actually push the top part of the latch forward when it's closed - my insert looks ok but stopped working a few days after i thought i'd fixed it - i wound up putting a shim behind the insert at the rear and so far (5 days) it works as it should - stan - so that fuse at the rear should be 1 amp? - the one in mine was a .4 amp and i replaced it with the same - while the hatch release does work it will burn the fuse randomly - burned two of the .4 amp fuses - i'll get a 1 amp and hopefully that will solve that problem - thanks

Only thing I can figure about this mechanism is maybe the insert was minimal to begin with, which explains the remains of only small pieces. Perhaps there was a design change and the full sized insert design superseded the old one...or the original simply had vaporized, it's a mystery and perhaps will never be known! Anyway, the insert seems essential in guiding the plunger upward and releasing the hatch latch.
