Power Windows Not Responding To Switch
As I completed the task of the hatch receiver insert repair, I did a check on the other electrical switches. Pressed the passenger and driver window switches and...no response. I just finished with one thing then another crops up, this can't be happening!
I rocked the switches back and forth and found they were working intermittently. Removed the switch covers carefully and discovered the contacts were dirty with a bit of corrosion. Took pictures so I'll remember how the contacts go upon reassembly and placed a towel around the work area in case one of those tiny parts drops into the chasm between the seats. Removed each contact one at a time, cleaned with very fine sandpaper then dressing it with dielectric grease. Placing them as before in their respective positions was another story as they didn't seem to stay put but was finally persuaded into position. Now the windows roll up and down as they should at the press of the rocker switch. Should anyone encounter this issue, look at the console switches after checking the 25 amp fuse! Now the odometer decided to stop working...that's another story! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1457493709.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1457493786.jpg |
I should add, be careful removing the plastic switch covers as they contain bullet shaped contacts with tiny springs behind them and are easily lost.

put a drop of deoxit 100 on each contact,
as well as the center rocking area of the metal tabs in the bottoms of the switches, then refit the tops of the switches work in the sun so the plastic parts are softer |
I had the same problem and I found the contacts quite pitted as I think full voltage passes thru the switches.
I just cleaned the contacts up and removed some of the plastic stop that is on the part you removed and the switches work like new, it just allows a bit more depression of the switch. I guess you could bend up the brass contact instead |
If the issue pops up again, I think I'll solder the contact points on the brass plates with just a small bit of solder, filling in the pitted areas then filing them so they're flush and regaining full contact again.
