Solid vs hydraulic motor mounts
been reading several 928 Posts about the Motor Mounts as I need to replace mine
![]() on a 1986 YR Model 928 Not sure whats best ? Solid or Hydraulic Mounts Hydraulic Any input on that anybody I see several Posts suggesting the " ANCHOR MOUNTS 2698 ( Hydraulic ) and the ANCHOR 2698SR ( Solid Rubber 97 ford ranger 2.3 L ) apparently bolts right in with little changes / few changes . Any Input on this ? Solid or Hydraulic hummm I suspect the Solid type may have more Vibration then the Hydraulic just a Guess This 86 928S has Vibration from the Collapsed Mounts so I began to Investigate . Cut a Simple 2X 6 Vertical 8 inch board placed under the AC Pump Bracket nailed to a 2x6 board running over to the Alternator with 2x6 spacer between and jacked the motor up and it rose right up 1 inch + or - Car on Stands I ran the Motor and the Vibration ( motor not jacked up) come in about 2,200 RPM's about 64 MPH , Jacked up the Vibration was about 50 % less but still apparent humm Investigating Further I discovered that the rear axel / Differential was dropped down so that it was hitting the Cross member . the Rubber Mounts where sagging . Discovered they are called Transmission Mounts in fact . 928 375 045 13 left and 928 375 046 13 right and costly from Porsche . So as a Test I placed some flat washers between the lower mount bolt and the Cross member this raised the unit up from the Cross member about 1/2 inch Ran Motor again and with Motor Jacked up no Vibration any more with out Motor jacked up now the Vibration came in at about 50 MPH rather then 64 MPH So time for Motor Mounts I well recheck the Clearance of the differential to Cross member with the Car wheels on the Ground just to make sure however the Rear axle is supported at control arms Via J. Stands. FOR THE MOTOR MOUNTS Just thinking Solid or like the original Hydraulic Looks simple to change the Mounts although time consuming The Mounts are very inexpensive after market so that's a + Any Suggestions appreciated ![]() Last edited by aluminum; 03-20-2016 at 09:32 PM.. |

I have used Jaguar V12 solid mounts on 3 engine swaps, great insulation, no vibration, designed to hold up BIG weight!
I can't even remember how thick a 928 mount is , but V12 rubber part is 35mm thick and you can add spacers top and bottom

![]() How many Washers did you have to ad , I presume at the Bottom side . I expect to work right You need Washers that well extend to the Outside Diameter of the Rubber on the Mount or they well sink in to the Rubber with less then full support . I am starting to Lean toward the Solid Type Mount rather then the Hydraulic . I am reading the Early Type Mounts last much better , |

Al,
You are talking about solid RUBBER mounts, correct? You aren't talking actual solid mounts.

Solid really means solid? why would you want to do that ? ![]() Even she would scream "enough!!) after about 5 minutes. Insulation really is needed if you plan to spend any time driving, if your girlfriend objects, buy a router.

After Much Reading :
most Solid mounts are not really Solid but have Hollow within that adsorb Vibration in fact . Sounds like a good thing perhaps . Made a Large difference after I raised up the rear transmission Mounts off the cross member however the Front MM are still down |

Al,
There are actually solid MMs. Honest to goodness bolt the engine to the crossmember solid. There are actual solid rubber MMs as well. But as you say, there are also "solid" rubber MMs that have that an air space.

The Jaguar v12 mounts are solid hard rubber, no air space, no gooey silicone filled centres.
