Window winder relay - hot, hot, hot
Hey all,
Been sorting through the various issues in this car, while going over the CE panel I noticed that the window winder relay was very hot, too hot to touch bare handed. Here are my thoughts; heat = excess load or resistance, but it heats up without the window motors even being activated. So excess resistance leaves me with a bad relay? It seems like the heat is mainly in the 30 prong and the large grey resistor above the coil. I'm assuming its probably a bad relay but welcome input. Should I test the draw at the motors before replacing the relay? 1989 - 928 S4 Last edited by Towers; 08-05-2014 at 01:32 PM.. |

What do the relay plug contacts look like?
Testing for a short or something sounds smart. If a new relay heats up, pull it until sorted. |

Prong 86 had some white fouling and light pitting on it, I sanded and cleaned it but no change. Inside the relay looks pretty clean, but had the smell of baked electrical components.

put deoxit 100 into the CE panel connectors the relay has a bad connection thus the hi resistance and heat
