928 oil pressure & eng temprature

Hi all you 928 fundi's

1986 S4 Auto: All fluids checked before trip commenced.

I am Brian from South Africa and I desperatley need some advise. I was on the way home with my lady friends 928 (12km) trip. Saw as the trip progressed that the oil pressure dropped to 2 and the engine temp hovered around the three quarter mark. Is this normal? This was town driving so there was no heavy acceleration. It was a fairly hot day. I was hoping go take the 928 in for tyre replacement. Thank you for your time
Brian

how hot was it? - oil pressure was 2 at idle or while revved? - at idle on a hot day i'd say 2 would be ok but if it's 2 at speed something could be wrong - oil too thin?

had to do the conversion - that's 82 degrees here - not that hot - coolant temp might have been a little high - it's been my experience with my 84 car that it doesn't like to be "not moving" - see what yours does when you're cruising along the highway when it's 28C

When temps are fine while cruising, but high in traffic, I suspect issues with the fans.

How many miles/kilometers on the car?
What grade of oil?

For comparison, on my 84, when the engine is fully warmed up, oil pressure hovers just below 3. At normal driving RPMs, the gauge indicates 5 (or near 5). This is true in both hot and cold weather. I use Rotella T6 5W40 and the car has approximately 76,000 miles.

Hi all,
I did the open road trip to work in the morning (16km), no problem. On the way home ran into traffic and the temp went to the top line by the time I got home. Will get this all checked out.
Thanks again for all the input.

Om my 86 in summer the temp will go up some at idle but not to the top, oil pressure is pegged when running and drops to about half at idle when hot. 74K miles on motor. Maybe check your electric fans.
