Hey y'all. I'm a big time lover of my 1980 928 which I picked up at an auction a little over a year ago. Recently it started leaking an astronomical amount of oil from the back of the oil pan, so I lowered the pan and replaced the gasket along with loaded it up with gasket goo. I assumed this would have fixed the problem, so I moved on and removed the transmission to get rebuilt as well. When everything was put back together, I started her up and within seconds oil was everywhere. The first picture is the cleaned back of the pan, and the second picture is of it after running for less than five seconds. Fully dropping the pan once is too many times. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to fix this?? College is back in session and I need to show her off!

my guess would be rear main seal - on the plus side you can get to it fairly easy - you have to remove the clutch pack between the engine and tranny

Yup, where it drips is often not the source of the drip.

drop the slave and the bell housing ,
run the engine to verify the leak

not sure but the starter mount might be integral with lower bell housing on that year - maybe run it then remove bell housing quick - a leak that bad should be fairly obvious down along the rear of the block
