Best source for old (working) OEM stereos?

NOS, restored Blaupunkts, etc.

Is there a "go to" guy/set of guys?

In the US?

Thanks.

Good luck if you can find someone. And let me know if you do. The early ones are extremely rare and hard to come by, and very expensive.

Seems there are a number of Blaupunkt radio repair services on the internet. I just pulled my old one out, put in a nice JVC with all the new features, put the old radio in a box so if I sell the car, the new owner can fiddle with it if they wish. Now I have Bluetooth, CD, touch screen, camera, can link my cell to it, USB input, the works.

The members selling many Blaupunkt radios on this forum are: ScottTurnbull, lada03 and halbatross (I think halbatross is not in the US).
Outside here, Vintageblau seems to pretty actif and offers repair service.

You may try to contact them directly if you are looking for some specific radios, they have more inventory then listed.

Also sometime you can find Porsche radios on thesamba, good deals but you have to be lucky since very few radios...

If you find a guy that can repair the late 80's /early 90's OEM Blaupunkt head units please let me know. I have contacted some of them with no luck. The repair shops refer to these as the SQR line. A couple told me that the issue is that there are not parts available to repair these. I have the Blaupunkt "Stuttgart" model from 91 Porsche 928 GT and need the cassette player function repaired. As a heads-up I have seen used replacements for $1,400 that in which the cassette player is also broken. There are units for $1,000 that don't turn on at all or they don't have the "code" . I have gone to great lengths to install an upgraded sound system with no visible signs that it isn't OEM, so I can respect your desire to do the same. As these 928's and 911's continue to increase in value, you will be glad you did.

Why beat a dead horse, these radios are obsolete. Cassette player? Who has any? My Expedition has one, I never put one it the thing. Look at what I put in my car, posted here some place. Buy a junk Blaupunkt, put it in a box if you sell, here is the original radio. I mean do people buy black and white TV's today? My JVC and sub woofer in the spare is far superior to the original Blau. Why, I even have the Porsche logo in the radio screen!

Mark - are any of those from a 78? I let mine go for a song a few years back and have regretted it since.

Hi Guys,
there was an older German gentleman that used to work on these radios out in CA. Even he stopped taking orders because there are no parts available.

I collected blaupunkts for a few years, and kinda like that show "American Pickers", in that I find them and put them where they belong (driving Porsches).
I do the basic maintenance myself and rarely on the more expensive models send them to my dad who really has golden hands.

Overall, I learned better to let the radios be as they are. They are so brittle after so many years, that the risk of breaking something is too big IMHO.

If anyone is looking for a particular model, I can help out in that regards. Just PM me

My limit to messing with one would be to open it up and hose it down with a quality contact cleaner, get all the noise out of the pots maybe with something specialized like faderlube.

Have you contacted Stefan at SW Stereo Specialists? If he can't fix it then it truly is toast.

I just got a CR ( 78-82) back from having it checked out. Everything works including the cassette which got a new belt installed. Includes a new face plate trim and knobs.
$1k
