86 928 Pod lights
I am going to need some odometer repair as the gear broke recently. While having the Pod out I would like to put in LED bulbs in the instrument cluster. Any recommendations?

Just remember this: LEDs are polarity specific. You will need to determine the polarity of each LED prior to installing it. In addition, you will need to determine the polarity of each light socket that you are installing the LED into. Any false steps and the LED will not function correctly.
That being said, I installed LEDs into the Stepson and for the most part, I love the results. But it was a PITA

The warning lights were from Superbright (B85D I believe). I found that my turn signals did not want to work correctly with an LED so I left that as stock. In addition, the alternator warning light is, I believe, what triggers the alternator, so I left that stock. All the others were replaced with a red/green/or blue LED as required.

the LED lamps are not dimmable and you will need to remove the dimmer from the circuit for them to work ,
also more important if you do much night driving i find the LED lights are too bright for effective night time vision to occur. YMMV

Yes, LED's have a threshold point for turn on. I may just replace all the bulbs with stock replacements, but I will look into it a bit more. My odometer gear broke so the main reason I need to pull it.

I have not tackled the job yet but there are some videos on it. Someone on Ebay will do it for about $100 or so. It looks a little delicate. It's going to be a winter project.

When you put the odo back together, you might want to add a thin washer to the end of the number stack if necessary to take up any excessive slack. The odo is notorious for skipping numbers because of excess space between the digits. I found I could force it to skip while turning it by hand. Seems to be a design flaw.

Ditto on the washer - it should be in those instructions posted. Without it, your odometer may not work after a bit.
The job isn't really difficult. It just requires a bit of courage. Somebody probably said this already: Be very careful removing the needle! The best method I've found is to hold it by the middle (NOT the needle) and ::gently:: wind it backwards. It will loosen and let you take it off.
