Help me ID my 928
Hi guys,
Trying to decide whether to embark on a major resto project of a 928 I just bought. I need a little help ID'ing it. VIN is 92A0800611 It appears as a 928S 1980 model, 5 speed manual right hand drive. My confusion is the VIN 6th digit which indicates S or not? Here are some pics; I appreciate any help. This is my first 928 after restoring a couple of 911's in the past. Cheers, Earlysport

Can’t see any pics.
Porsche Australia [Melbourne] will be able to run the numbers for you and supply an email with factory spec of that particular car free of charge ... no fee for authentication by Porsche in Australia. |

Photos Fell Out -
Hey Early - Isn't it about 15 hours flight time from Australia to the U.S. ? The missing emailed 928 photos of your car may have fallen out of the plane.

Yes around 15 hours, more likely they failed the 'car of acceptable condition' photo test. It's pretty bad ha.
I'll try again from my computer. In short it looks like a gold 928S! Important bits for me are Pasha interior, manual, and the colour. Hopefully I still like all that after the pain I'm sure to go through restoring it! Cheers,

Weissach -
Hey Early - I'm no expert but there was a special "Weissach Edition" gold paint, 5 speed with the Pasha interior available in the early 1980's ? Perhaps your 928 will turn out to be one these limited production models. Someone here should be able to fill you in more........
My wife and I have made a couple of vacation trips through the Hunter Valley and up to Mackay. Also the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef area is really beautiful. I had a few "pucker moments" and calibrated the side mirror on our rental car a couple of times while negotiating some of the narrow side streets in Sydney. Just about the time you began to feel comfortable driving on the opposite side of the road, it's time to go. ![]() Good Luck, Michael

Nice Looking Car -
Hey Early - What we really need is someone with access to a detailed internet data base to decipher your information plates. There were several changes in the 928 between the late 1970's and 1980's. The initial "S Package" included front and rear spoilers, larger brakes, 5-speed transmission, CIS-Injection and a higher compression motor. It seems that the electronic fuel injection (L-Jet) was even beginning to show up in a few very limited locations. I'd found in some of the Porsche Reference Books chronicling the 928 production history that at each major transition point they all become pretty vague as to what equipment mix went where. This was especially true if you throw in the factory's efforts to boost sales by expanding their liberal list of options and the modified build sheets that were available.
This information is from "Brian Long's 928 Book" on page 193. Hopefully I've not incorrectly deciphered or misread anything ![]() It looks like the data plate information you pictured shows a European model 928 with 5-speed transmission: Type - M28-09 1980 - 1982 92A - Australia (Correction - 92A = 1980) VIN Number 92A0800611 **********92A0800611 = 928 4.5 Liter (4474cc) Compression 10.01 @ 240 Hp (Some 4.7 Liter 300 Hp Motors Avail ) Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) Fuel Injection Serial Number Range 8000001 - 8005000 Shown = 8000249 The motor serial number will help sort out the power plant. Good Luck,Michael
