With the 928 at the upper end of the price range small details mean thousands, including who the buyer and seller are and how much the buyer wants the specific car. The market is way too thin to make any price generalizations.

How does the 928 owner joke go? "Hey, there's Earl. He just put $15,000 into a $5,000 car."
I see a lot of high asking prices locally, but the cars are perpetually for sale, or end up selling for much less than the asking price. -This includes the late 80's models. The only exceptions would be the last model produced, or a low serial number early edition.

Premium condition 928's are rare, maybe 1% or less. Most are not for sale until somebody dies.
The trick with putting $15k into a $5k car is that it still may be the cheapest most effective way to get what you want. The downside may be that the resulting $20k car may not be what someone else wants or is willing to pay for. |

OP, there is good information to support your needs on the Bring A Trailer website. Go there and noodle through, and you can get all of the 928s sold over the past couple of years with the actual prices. There are some in this range, including recently.
