Exhaust system removal

I've gotten all of the hangers and bolts I can find on the exhaust system and removed.
The entire exhaust system is hanging to the floor at the back.
The challenge is the exhaust pipe(short) that goes to the wastegate will not come loose or break away from the wastegate. I've removed the 5 bolts on the short exhaust pipe to the wastegate. Removed 4 bolts that go to enhaust pipe plus the 5th bolt which is attached up above.
Any ideas on what I am missing? How to get wastegate to exhaust pipe separated.
Thanks for any ideas.

You need to remove the catalytic converter pipe before removing the wastegate and such.

Take off those 3 bolts up near the turbo down pipe and the 2 bolts on the flange connecting the wastegate dump pipe to the catalytic convertor, then remove the catalytic converter pipe by sliding it out and off that wastegate dump pipe.

Pretty sure that's how I got it all out when I did mine.

Thanks for such a quick response and info.

I've got the catalytic converter pipe loose from the turbo down pipe. All bolts out of short exhaust pipe from the wastegate. That short exhaust pipe will not separate from wastegate. It's like there has to be something else holding. I couldn't move it if I used a pry bar(that I'm not doing).
Any other ideas/thoughts why it won't move?

Thanks again,
Ed

Use a cold chisel and a hammer to start the pieces moving (carefully). They have been together for 30 years or so and need some motivation to divorce.

Thanks George,

I think that might be it, although, when I move the exhaust system back and forth from the rear I get about a 1/2 bolt hole movement from wastegate to exhaust pipe. I'll go give it a try. Ain't much left that can be done.

I really appreciate you fellows helping out.

Ed

there's a bracket around torque-tube that wastegate attaches to. If you unbolt them, it'll give wastegate more wiggle room. I use many extensions with socket with built-in U-joint.
