AOS and Impact on Oil Consumption
Hi all:
Purchased a 87 951 a year ago in excellent condition. A recent smoke test suggests there may be an AOS vacuum leak. Could this cause a car to consume roughly a quart of oil every 300 miles when before the rate was 1 quart per 1000 miles. There are no visible signs of oil leaks in the engine compartment or on the driveway. Thanks

It is possible. Look inside the air filter box and see if there's oil pooling in there. If it is the AOS seal you won't be happy with all you have to do just to replace $5 worth of rubber seals. Also check the seal on the oil filler cap for good seal. Good luck.
