Control arm bushings
Just pulled the front control arms on my 86, and am taking a look at the bushings debating on what to do. To me, the right castor block appears to need a bushing. Fronts look okay. The ball joints, among other things, failed a recent tech inspection, but they are the last piece to be replaced thanks to Covid time.
Don’t want to do this job again any time soon, but these are expensive parts. What would you recommend? ![]() ![]() Also, just dropped the rear before I pulled these! Very happy about that part! Not too happy about it being upside down, but that made the ball joint job easier! ![]()

968 control arm ball joints are typically non-rebuilable.
Do your arms have the tabs in front for attaching your brake cooling deflectors? If so, just spend the $$ and get new ones. Left: 944/rebuidable. Right: Late 944/968, non-rebuilable. ![]()

Thanks for the reply. This is a 951, and has rebuildable ball joints. What I’m struggling with is whether to replace one castor block with a good used block, or upgrade. I’m thinking Elephant racing 968 blocks. Is there much of a difference? This is a street car which hopes to see a DE or two a year.

Not sure how I read you had a 968 in there....
I would just get a set of new upgraded stock caster blocks. They are perfect for your application.

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered the Elephant Racing blocks from Pelican. Should be an upgrade anyway, and it’s due.
