951 K27 Issues-Noise

Hi, I just purchased a 89 951, with a 7k old k27 installed by Powerhaus. It ran fine when I drove the car 600 miles back from AZ. When I drove it the next dat, it seemed a little noiser, whistlely, like it was sucking air. It seems like it's also producing a little less boost. Any clues. I am a porsche guy, but am new to the whole turbo thing. Any simple checks I can perform? What is the routine maintenence on these. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

I have the K27dr on mine. Put it on in January, 1997 along with MAF. All came from PH. Mine has always whistled. I can always hear it if the windows are down sucking air in from the cone filter. Not so if they are up. If I drive on an interstate near a wall on driver's side, I hear the whine like a diesel truck has when I accelerate. Mine has been making those noises since about 92K miles when I installed the stuff. It now has 141K and 50 track events, give or take, under its belt. Same noises.

The boost differences could be due to fuel or elevation changes or atmospheric conditions. Mine occasionally does not absolutely peg the needle every time.

Routine maintenance: I change the oil every other track event along with filter of course. Nothing other than that for turbo.

Make sure your turbo water pump comes on whenever you shut off the car. This needs to occur. Actually, it should cycle on and off a couple of times after leaving the car. I also drive it slowly before shutting it off. As mine is parked in basement, I open hood. Also do that at track.
