Help my Chip install
I just recieved my Guru Racing chip today for my 87 951 and there are no instructions.....
I have emailed the company to send me some but I want to get this thing in and take her for a ride. Any one have any instructions for this or can help me...it came with two chips. Also, the kit came with waste gate shims....how do you install those? Thanks for any help with this. Jim |

Ill do my best to describe the process without a diagram.
You should have recieved the following: 2 chips: 1 DME and 1 KLR Wastegate shims Boost enhanser Under your glove box on the passenger side, remove the carpetting. You should see a cross brace holding both computers - the DME and the KLR. Remove the cross brace and CPU boxes (remember how you took it apart, it will take you twice as long to get everything back together). Open the CPU boxes by lifting the "tabs" to expose the circut boards. Seperating the circut boards will seem difficult, but once accomplished its one of thsoe "why didnt I try that the first time?" kind of things. The black plastic nipples hold the two boards together. Seperate these and the circut boards should open like a book. Remove the OEM chips (same size as the Guru chips - easy to identify) and then install the new ones. Be careful to ground yourself on something prior to touching anything on the circut boards. Youll notice there is a small red wire that came with your kit, this is used to create a closed connection behind the DME and KLR boxes of sorts and must be installed unless you plan on using race gas (I think... Its been awhile). Make CERTAIN that the right chip is in the right computer! Reinstall the CPU boxes after both chips have been swapped and mount the cross brace. Put carpetting back over the brace. At this point, the car is ok to drive, although you wont get everything the kit can provide. I experienced a little bit of smoke for the first ride which is normal as the car "adjusts" to the new setup. This smoke went away completely after a day or so. Next open your hood and notice the small "bolt" that connects a boost tube to your intercooler piping directly above the airbox. This bolt is refered to as the "Banjo Bolt." This will connect to the boost enhanser. The OEM setup snakes the line to the right of the bolt, clamping onto a metal intake tube - the other side of the BE will connect here eventually. I crafted a small section of fuel line as a vacuume tube (works just fine) and snaked the boost enhanser under the manifold to rest beside the fuel rail. Guru recommends that you place it on top of the fuel rail, but I found it was a little high and left an indent on the insulation - risking a dent in the hood. Now youll feel a little bit more of a difference, as youll get full boost much sooner. Shimming the wastegate is a little too complicated for me to try and explain - but Im sure someone can go through that process for you, or if all else fails, a muffler shop can remove, shim, and reinstall the wastegate. Im sorry if its kind of difficult to follow (especially without pictures) - I did this a long time ago and my memory is foggy... it would be easier if I had a 951 to look at - it would come back. Send an Email to Danno. He usually sends installation instructions via Email as he doesnt want the general public aware of the "adjustment techniques" due to the quality of the product (red: doesnt want it copied) He is also on www.rennlist.com more often than here. Hope I pointed you in the right direction, good luck - you wong be disapointed with he kit!

See here:
http://www.gururacing.net/ Warning: One you swap chips... theres no going back. In 12 months youll be ripping out the turbo and installing a bigger blower because 300 HP just wont "do it for you" anymore. ![]() Have fun.

Hehe. That reminds me of when I took the car to the dealer a few years after I bought it. Seems it just wasn't performing the way it used to. After several technicians tested and drove the car, the chief mechanic came to me and said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I replied that there must be something wrong because it just doesn't seem to have that kick anymore. He looked at me, put his hand on my shoulder and said "nope, everything is fine, you're just getting used to it."
Moral of the story? MORE POWER BABY!!

I wonder if you manage to install the chip, and how it goes?
I'm thinking of getting one for me also. Let me know. Thanks |

I'm definitely going to do the research on this one. It's in my purchase plans for this summer (I also have to do the brakes as they really are more of a priority) If I like the upgrade, I'm even thinking about the tuning module as well.
