Install turbo before or after engine install?
ill be installing a turbo engine soon and just wanted to know from everyones experience how far should I build up the engine on the engine stand. Should I completely install the exhaust headers turbo and crossover pipes?
|
Do as much as you can on the engine stand. Once it is in the engine bay, much more difficult to work on.
Install the headers, turbo and crossover pipe on the stand. It is almost easier to install the clutch, torque tube and transaxle at the same time, like they did at the factory. |
I did a 350 chevy for my old 76 Camaro and you can't install everything before you install it, steering parts will get in the way. As for the Porsche turbo, different story, build it up then install it.

I installed the driveline of my turbo swap as one assembly. Raised the engine with a cherry picker and the trans with a jack. Incredibly easy. |
Yes, Build as much as you can on the stand and then install the engine from under the car.
