Turbo Water pump?????
Hi Guys...
I just put my 951 back toghether and finally got to ride it for a while. Since i never had before a 951 i still kind of lost . I didn't heard or felt the water pump for the turbo kick in. I check the pump and it turns when i connect to the battery direct. Is it suppose to run all the time when the car is running? or it comes based on the DMA signal? If it is something wrong and the pump doesn't comes on , what i expect to see happening so i will not burn something al's or the Turbo. i mean what are the symptoms of a faulty turbo water pump, Thank's |

Turbo water pump should kick in when you shut engine off. It'll also kick in upon occasion whenever the thermostat in the turbo tells it to.
The length of time it runs is controlled by a relay. It always runs for the same amount of time and will occasionally come on when engine is running. But it should always come on when you shut engine off. With ignition off, pull the wire that goes from the turbo pump to the thermostat on the turbo. There is a union along the wire before it gets to thermostat. Short the pump side of the wire to the block. Just touching it should trigger the relay to run the pump for about 20 seconds. If it does not run, it is probably your relay at fault assuming a fuse is not blown.

I did trigger the relay after i made sure that the fuce was ok and the pump came on.
But not for 20 seconds...only for the period of time where i was touching the wire to the block. Thanks |

The relay might be bad then. There's a timer circuit inside the relay that keeps the water-pump going for 30-seconds. So you can ground the temp-sensor wire just momentarily, and the pump will run for 30-seconds.
